Bit of a dive, but a great night out. The club is open late, has a mix of music to suit everyone and it gets busy enough with a young crowd to keep you entertained and not too self-conscious when you brave the dancefloor!

The Dogstar is a gritty pub with a great ambience, everyone is so friendly and prices are reasonable. They have the local Brixton beer on tap here. They also seem to allow dogs. It is a huge space and has a lot of dark corners to meet friends for a good chat. Décor is dark, simple and a bit battered.

I haven't been to the Dog Star in Brixton in a very long time and was incredibly sorry to see how the mighty had fallen. What was once a buzzing indie spot on a Sunday night where all of the cool kids hung out, it's now looking decrepit and a bit battered. I'm all in favour of a little shabby chic however there were multiple buckets collecting water that was dripping from the ceiling. On a Sunday, the pub was empty apart from those hanging around to watch the football or who were coming in for yoga classes. Drinks are still very decent and staff were friendly but I just feel it's a shame in areas such as Brixton where new and exciting venues are beginning to settle in, that the original hangouts that made these places great are left to rot. Quite literally.

After 20 or so years you'd think this place would have decreased in popularity - but it hasn't. Returned last weekend twice - once for the usual roadblock dance party on Fridays and for the David Bowie party after the Academy event. The place is still the scruffy Dog I've loved over the years - one that isn't the pop-up, over priced operation - so ubiquitous in the neighborhood these days - instead a lovely old boozer [I think they've done up the outside recently] with pub prices and DJs on the weekend; add pizza, comedy, markets, everything like that - and its still a local hub. The one thing I have to say is the security, staff when its at is busiest - like any other nightclub in London - has new rules - see Fabric for example - don't forget your photo ID - nor can they let you in [and this applies to all big venues in London] and don't drink in the Q. If the staff seem like they're yelling at you - a clue might be at the far end of the bar where the DJ is playing - no doubt its a loud venue - they're not screaming at you :)  Summary - Love this place - and not for someone looking for a sparkler on a bottle. This is the real deal. Not pretentious nor flash - just one of the best nights out in the city.

I've been put off from visiting this late night bar previously due to the chart-hit tripe that is blasted out of their speakers and the drunk students packing out the dance floor but I visited a week ago for a friend's private party and I was pleasantly surprised.

The Dogstar has two large function rooms at the top of the building and the party was in the slightly smaller room on the 3rd floor.

We had our own bar and toilets on the same level which saved us from walking up and down the many stairs. It was also equipped with its own sound system, which was slightly on the quiet side, but still a bonus to have CDJs and turntables in what is essentially a large pub.

Drinks were reasonable, as was the Hire fee, and the bar staff were really friendly and accommodating, especially since they were having to deal with around 100 drunk and rowdy customers.

Would definitely go back for a private party again and I'm even considering holding my birthday party here too!

Had a good enough time until a rude staff member started yelling abuse at me and my friend. We did nothing to her but she just wanted to pick a fight. She kick us out but then security had to restrain her because she was trying to fight me. I don't want to go back to a place where members of staff act like that. On a whole, service is absolutely terrible.

So many wicked nights here. We always end up at dogstar when we're out in brixton. Love it!

Cant wait to see that amazing MonkeyMarc from Australia there tonight !!!

I go here often after work on a friday. Always a great night out - good tunes and friendly people. Love it, highly recommended!

Mega fun night out in very lively Brixton, extremely tasty pizzas, cool staff and party atmosphere later on. Good range of drinks, resonable 'pub' prices!!!
