The Ionian Singers directed by Timothy Salter, with young Korean violinist Sulki Yu play music ranging from Byrd to the twentieth century.
Choral pieces by Byrd, Victoria, JS Bach and Bruckner opens the programme. Sulki Yu joins choir for Knut Nystedt's ecstatic setting of 'Ave Maria'.
Rubbra's Second Nocturn for Maundy Thursday and Thea Musgrave's dramatic Rorate Coeli, to words by the 15C poet William Dunbar, complete the choral music in this concert.
Sulki Yu performs two dynamic works for solo violin: Ysaÿe's Sonata No 3 and Timothy Salter's 'Oration'. She is joined by Timothy Salter in a Handel sonata for violin and continuo.
