Britten Sinfonia proudly launches its new association with the Barbican with a gala concert and free stage events that also celebrate the orchestra's 20th birthday. Journeying through 400 years of music, the evening celebrates the orchestra's bold artistic outlook and showcases the talents of Britten Sinfonia musicians as well as close collaborators.

Purcell's 'Hear my Prayer'; Nico Muhly's Birthday piece (world premiere); JS Bach's Concerto for Two Violins in D minor; Britten's 'Les Illuminations'; James MacMillan's Birthday piece (London premiere); Prokofiev's Symphony No 1 ('Classical'); Bach's Keyboard Concerto No 5 in F minor; and Moondog arr MacGregor 'Sidewalk Dances'.

Britten Sinfonia directed by violinists Thomas Gould, Jacqueline Shave and Pekka Kuusisto, and pianist Joanna MacGregor, with Kuljit Bhamra, tabla, Tom Herbert, bass, Alina Ibragimova, violin, Mark Padmore (tenor), Seb Rochford on drums, and Andy Sheppard saxophones. Plus, Britten Sinfonia Voices directed by Eamonn Dougan.

(Note: at 6.30pm , a performance from Britten Sinfonia Academy, on the FreeStage in Barbican Foyer. Then, at 10pm, on the ClubStage, a free late performance.)
