Singers are invited to join conductor Matthew Morley and the Choir of St Bride's for a performance of Benjamin Britten's 'St Nicolas' cantata. The day-long rehearsals culminate in a performance at 6.30pm.
With the help of Pickled Boys, sailors, orchestral whips, a girls' chorus in the gallery, tenor soloist, chorus and orchestra, Britten takes us through the life and miracles of the patron saint of sailors and children (and the origin of today's Santa Claus). Written with music of great colour and accessibility, it typifies Britten's genius for composing music for the whole community; even the audience get the chance to sing, so there's something for everyone.
(Note: previous experience of singing in a choir will be an advantage but not a prerequisite! Vocal scores are provided. For further info anneliese@stbrides.com.)
