The maverick Australian composer Percy Grainger (1882-1961) was a citizen of the world. A leading piano virtuoso and highly original composer, Grainger broke the boundaries of classical music, gaining inspiration from folk music of Europe, Asia and the Americas. His music is a celebration of life – from the wildly ecstatic to the heart-breakingly sad. On the fiftieth anniversary of Grainger's death, leading scholars explore aspects of his adventurous life and work. There is live music, and the day concludes with a reception for the launch and book-signing of 'The New Percy Grainger Companion'. Speakers include: Richard Chesser, Teresa Balough, Rita Boswell, Roger Covell, Lewis Foreman, Paul Jackson, Barry Peter Ould, Bruce Clunies Ross, Geoffrey Simon and Penelope Thwaites.
