The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Exaudi under Ilan Volkov, with pianists John Tilbury, Frank Denyer, Aki Takahashi and Christian Wolff, plus friends. Cage's '1O1'; 'Improvisation III' (for cassettes); 'Experiences II'; 'ear for EAR' (antiphonies for solo and unseen voices); 'Four2'; Christian Marclay's 'Baggage 2012'; (improvisation for orchestra); Cage's 'Cartridge Music' with 'Atlas eclipticalis' and 'Winter Music'; Concerto for Prepared Piano and Orchestra; 'But what about the noise of crumpling paper...'; David Behrman, Takehisa Kosugi, Keith Rowe and Christian Wolff's Quartet (improvisation); and Cage's 'Branches' (for amplified cacti and plants). (Note: at 5pm there is a Proms Plus event – a whistlestop tour of Cage's music – at the Royal College of Music; at 6pm there is a BBC Proms Music Walk through various locations – the BBC Proms has commissioned ten site-specific compositions in response to intriguing locations in the South Kensington area, which it passes through. They include the Royal Albert Hall loading bay and Victoria & Albert Museum, before culminating in the final work by leading British composer, Judith Weir, at the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2012 designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei. See promsmusicwalk.co.uk for details.)
