London Sinfonietta and Synergy Vocals chorus under David Atherton, with Cristina Zavalloni (soprano). Two works by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen, whose music is known for his idiosyncratic instrumental combinations and the combined influences of jazz and minimalism with dissonance, amplification and energetic rhythms. 'Anaïs Nin" (for singer, ensemble and film; UK premiere); and 'De Staat' (a large-scale musical tour de force influenced by the energy of big band music and minimalistic rhythms). (Note: at 6.15pm, a pre-concert talk in The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall; this concert contains explicit content and language and is recommended for ages 16 and over.)
