Valery Gergiev conducts the London Symphony Orchestra, with cellist Mario Brunello. Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No 2; and Mahler's Symphony No 9. (Mahler's Ninth Symphony was written in 1909 out of personal crisis: his daughter had died, his marriage had collapsed and he had been diagnosed with heart disease. Nonetheless, the symphony works through grief and anger towards a joyful acceptance of human destiny.)
