London Sinfonietta's 'Pavilions' celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of the Festival of Britain and aims to showcase the best music from living British composers writing for the contemporary music ensemble. The programme of 'Sinfonietta Shorts' includes new works by major figures of the British scene. London Sinfonietta under Nicholas Collon, with Leigh Melrose (baritone). Christopher Fox's 'KK' for alto saxophone and five cow bells; Laurence Crane's Movement for Ten Musicians; Martin Suckling's 'Candlebird' (world premiere); Philip Cashian's 'Bone machine' (world premiere); Bryn Harrison's Six symmetries for large ensemble; and Colin Matthews's:' Night rides' (world premiere). (Note: at 6.30pm, New Sinfonietta Shorts from musicians on Writing the Future, a scheme which gives composers the chance to write new music in close collaboration with the London Sinfonietta's players; free.)
