The first of a series of three concerts. Twenty years after the fall of the Soviet Union, the ensemble Endymion explores the dark and light, the public and private in music by Dmitri Shostakovich and Alfred Schnittke. Schnittke's Piano Quartet (after Mahler); Shostakovich's Viola Sonata, Op 147; Schnittke's Suite (Sonata) in the Old Style, for violin and piano; and Shostakovich's Cello Sonata in D minor, Op 40.
