The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment offers a chance to delve into the world and music of JS Bach's rather neglected son, Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach. In this morning event, which is presented by Sara Mohr-Pietsch, Susan Wollenberg, Reader in Music at the University of Oxford, and Rachel Baldock, an oboist who is currently writing a doctorate at the Royal Academy of Music on CPE Bach's Instrumental Music introduce the music of CPE Bach, and also set the historical scene, including an introduction to the eighteenth-century courts in which CPE Bach worked. (Note: session lasts two and a half hours, including a 30 minute break. The afternoon session starts at 2pm and is booked separately.)
