A second chance, courtesy of The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment to delve into the world and music of JS Bach's rather neglected son, Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach. The afternoon session features music from CPE Bach, his Trio Sonata Sanguineas and Melancholiu, with Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment players including violinist Catherine Mackintosh. After the performance they go on to explore and deconstruct the music, looking at harpsichords, an instrument central to the repertoire played at court. OAE co-principal keyboard player Steven Devine demonstrates and talks about several instruments, as well as exploring music written for them. The afternoon concludes with an informal question and answer session with speakers and performers. (Session lasts two and a half hours, including a 30 minute break. The morning session starts at 10.30am and must be booked separately.)
