The OAE's alternative and informal classical night features Beethoven's Symphony No 8. Not only do you get to hear this masterpiece performed on gut strings, true to the time it was written, you are also allowed to clap when you want, drink alcoholic beverages and chat just as though you were at home (except with an Orchestra). Plus, with the help of nimble fingered pianists Robert Levin and Ya-Fei Chuang, you’ll even get a taste of Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Two Pianos, written when he was just 14 years old.
Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment directed by violinist Margaret Faultless, with Robert Levin and Ya-Fei Chuang on fortepianos.
(Note: In the Front Room of the QEH, Harry Harris plays pre-show music from 9pm ; and the concert is followed by a DJ.)
