A candlelit concert performance of Handel's three-act oratorio, telling the tragic tale of a beautiful Roman princess, Theodora, who is condemned to slavery as a temple prostitute for her Christian beliefs by Valens, the Roman President of Antioch. She is rescued by Didymus a Roman soldier who has converted to Christianity and has fallen in love with her. English Chamber Choir and Belmont Ensemble of London under Peter G Dyson, with soprano Elizabeth Weisberg (Theodora), mezzo Ciara Hendrick (Irene), countertenor Ivor Setterfield (Didymus), tenor Richard Rowntree (Septimius) and bass Philip Tebb (Valens).
