With a name like Adams Cafe and a daytime menu of full English and other greasy spoon favourites, you might not expect the nightly transformation into a cosy North African bistro. Head here after 7pm, though, and mottled lampshades scatter pretty patterns of light across a candlelit room that’s decorated in muted blues and greens, with ornate ceramic tiling. In-the-know locals often fill the place.
The menu is helpfully split into prices for one, two or three courses; you can mix and match as you like and it’s great value. Briks, doigts de fatma and cigares – all crisp little pastries, surprisingly light and delicately spiced, with meat, seafood or vegetarian fillings – are highlights among the starters. Main courses include tagines and couscous, as well as a variety of grilled meats and fish.
The chefs hail from Morocco and Tunisia, and the subtlety of the aromatic dishes shows their homelands’ cuisines in their best light. Complimentary appetisers, a leisurely atmosphere and optional BYO add to diners’ sense of well-being.

Adams Cafe could be described as my second home, dining there nearly every day for lunch and, of course, a chat with Addel & Frances. The specials board is changed daily whilst you could never tire with what's on offer from their huge menu. By evening the café changes into a fine ambient restaurant which is always alive with customers and smiling faces. A hidden gem in W12 for just about any occasion.
Just love this place - recommend the brik a l'oeuf, to start and the cous cous royal for main is fantastic! Finish off with the pastries. Service is always friendly, it is a genuine local restaurant.
If you really want authentic Tunisian grub in London, look no further. We were eating delicious stuff before Nigella. Top notch food, service and more importantly people.
I love the lamb and prune tagine or fresh grilled seabass. Plus the atmosphere is always so welcoming and friendly - a real treat!
A Family run restaurant, which has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere to it. The food itself is mouth watering, and always makes you want to come back for more. i highly recommend the 'brick a l'oeuf', and the 'mixed grill'. it's rare to find a place which exceeds in both quality and quantity, yet Adam's Cafe is one of those exceptions; a true hidden gem.
My all time favourite restaurant in Shepherds Bush. In the evening, outstanding food and service, very reasonably priced and a lovely ambiance. This place has been trading for the best part of 30 years, a great testament in itself, but don't just take my word for it, some of the biggest names in the restaurant business, owners and critics, can be spotted there on their nights off!
One of our favourite restaurants in the whole of London, and definitely the best in terms of value for money. The food is sophisticated and well-presented - particularly recommended are the tagines and cous cous dishes. And really friendly service.
Lots of interesting dishes and flavours I'd never tasted before! Everything was lovely and tasty, and all such good value. I'll definitely be coming back again and again!
excellent food and very friendly , it's one of our favourites. It's recently been redecorated and looks even nicer than in the picture. can't recommend this one highly enough.
The best Tunisian family-run restaurant in London, consistently delicious food, warm, welcoming atmosphere, great service- a real gem!
For the past 20 years I have eaten in this lovely family-run cafe on Askew Road. The food is delicious and affordable, and of a consistently high standard. Great house wines, reasonable prices, no add-on at the end of night. Desserts to go mad for. What's not to love here.
As a frequent visitor and huge fan of this lovely restaurant I am a bit peeved to see that it has been nominated for an award as one of the best in Purley!! It is in Askew Road, Shepherds Bush. Please, Timeout, get the entry corrected. The brick a l'oeuf always makes a wonderful starter then I choose something different every time.
just love it always friendly massive helpings great soups love the tagines and the gambas are to die for
I'm a bit of a fan of Tunisian cuisine so to find Adam's Cafe is a real bonus to add to my possible restaurant adventures. A great taste of North Africa at very reasonable prices, umm I can smell the spices as I write this! Oh no! I should not have posted this - everyone will want to go!
I am a totally Blind person and I get a lot of attention from the Proprietors because I am Lactose Intolerant - no matter how busy they are, I and other visually impaired customers get their full attention; I would therefore recommend the Café to anyone and they also are willing to accept Guide dogs
Local but nevertheless always special, Adams Cafe serves up delicious, fragrant cous cous dishes with friendly service.
What can I say. I absolutely love Tunisian food so Adams has to be a favourite of mine but Frances and Abdel are just the best. My whole family and team at work just love these guys. The customer service is outstanding and like I said the food is superb. We love Adams xxxx
The proprietors have the perfect formula for a long, lasting successful restaurant: consistently good food that doesn't cost an arm and the proverbial leg, and a warm casual atmosphere.
Welcoming atmosphere, delicious food at reasonable prices. One of my favourite restaurants. Easy parking is a bonus.
Brilliant food and cosy atmosphere. Frances and Abdel are the best hosts. They make you feel welcome and important. Can't recommend highly enough.
The most delicious cuisine, in a family-run, genuine, and utterly unique place. This restaurant is the heart of the neighbourhood but would also make any Tunisian proud.
Best food in town at Adams Cafe. Very good relaxing atmosphere, and you can never go wrong in this well established, family run restaurant in Shepherds Bush.
I have been going to Adams Café since it first opened. I regularly take guests from overseas and on their return to London, it is Adams Café they want to go to! Lucky me! The only problem I face is choosing which delicious dish I am going to order!
This lovely little restaurant never disappoints, whether you want an intimate dinner for two, if you want to dine with larger groups, or just roll up in the morning for a hearty breakfast which will see you through for the day. Great value and great staff.
Adams Café has been a wonderful gem of Shepherds Bush for over 25 years. The warm friendly atmosphere and delicious hearty food makes Adams Cafe perfect for every event, from romantic dinners to larger parties. I can't recommend it any more! Fantastic restaurant.
A local institution the ever-friendly owners dispense fry-ups in the morning and excellent Tunisian food every night. A great choice at a great price.
Best family-run restaurant ever, well deserved reputation built up over years for friendliness, generosity and authenticity and astonishingly good prices.
