A charming people-watching spot in a relaxed contemporary setting in the heart of Mayfair.

Having been warmly received by the waitress who offered my companion and I a glass of champagne, we opted for some tea whilst watching passerbys through stunning wall-to-ceiling windows overlooking the fashionable Mount Street.

We began by tucking into a warm savoury bite of black truffle brioche that was rich and flavourful. We were then presented with a selection of Jean-Georges’ finger sandwiches which had a twist on the classic fillings. These included smoked salmon with chipotle chillies, aged cheddar cheese, egg and parsley, coronation chicken, cucumber, greek yoghurt and fresh mint. The bread was fresh and the fillings were generous with unusually thrilling flavour combinations. I couldn’t resist having a second round.

This was followed by fresh scones with clotted cream, home-made jam and lemon curd along with a selection of pastries; fig and almond cake, Matcha eclairs, Chocolate Rocher, Pear Tart and Orange Blossom. The scones were warm and well-risen. The cakes were meticulously crafted that were proportionately fruity and tangy. However, as a chocolate lover my favourite was The Rocher followed by the chocolate fondue that came in a glass with sliced pears. The Rocher was wickedly indulgent. The fondue was presented at the top of the stand and possibly the best feature.

With skilfully prepared honest food at £50 per head and extremely scoffable sarnies, it is not excessively priced especially if you take advantage of the unlimited refills. So if you have a bit of gawking fetish, why not while away the afternoon idly chatting and observing people in an elegant setting that offers a fresh twist on traditional afternoon tea.
