This place is the worst! Weekend night horrible drunk people are falling over everywhere outside, the space downstairs is sooooooo dark (TOO dark - I go to a lot of clubs and something is not right here!) and has a raised area so you trip over - in the dark lol! - , there aren't nearly enough loos for the customers, the booze is poor quality for the prices and the staff are rubbish and/or rude. Gave it the benefit of the doubt and went back on a Sunday for food and it was so substandard. . Really hate this place :( :(

Please see my below comment - I tried to give this place ZERO STARS and it automatically gave it three? So now I am giving it one more than it deserves!!! Oh wow - "amazing cocktails tailored by highly experienced bartenders". Babble Jar is absolutely the worst cocktail bar/bar that serves cocktails I have ever had in my life (hence bothering to write a review!). I asked for a martini and she couldn't even make me a standard, common or garden martini! She looked confused, asked someone else who looked confused and then refused! So I ordered another drink from their menu, it took for ever and instead of a sprinkle of cinnamon on top it was coated. It had hardly any alchol it it and was gross and it was so expensive that it put me in a bad mood - I was so disappointed! Anyway, swapped on the red wine, and it was so gross it gave me a hideous hang over the next day - luckily we only stayed for one more after the cocktail disaster. Staff were all obnoxious also, and the door man "chatted me up" really agressively, by not letting me past and insisting on searching my bag (for a bar/restaurant? Please...) and making horrible suggestive comments about looking like the kind of girl who'd carry a gun ("if you know what I mean" *wink wink*). No actually, I don't! I will never return and suggest you give it a wide berth too! Stokie is such a nice neighbourhood with numerous lovely bars... Why bother?!

the "highly experienced bartenders" last night asked me several times what were the ingredients for the cocktails my friend and I had ordered: RIDICULOUS! Also, I have to say their reply, when I pointed out the cocktails were basic and they should have known themselves, was what I consider to be rude. Definitely not going back and not recommending it to any of my mates

We went for dinner here early on Saturday night. Even though the food was discounted it was really horrid (right down to the frozen potato wedges), and the beer was nasty. The service was of poor quality, and the atmosphere was also generally not pleasant at all. The bar looks good inside and has considerable potential as a cultural space, but it's a shame that the dining experience offered didn’t even come close to matching the promise. I really couldn’t recommend dinner here to a friend, or even to an arch enemy. There really are so many better alternatives in the neighbourhood which are not nearly as disappointing or underwhelming as Babble Jar. It would really need to buck up its ideas if I were to even consider going back.

Been here a few times now. It is completely different each time I go: i.e Sunday afternoon and/or Weekend night. I went after work on a Friday and the upstairs bar was buzzing. Then later on we headed down to the basement for a House set, which was uuber cool; as the layout is a perfect mash up of grime and trendy. After having a heavy night at my friends in Hackney on a Sat, we walked down here for a hair of the dog and ended up staying for hours. It is a completely different place in the day. We had really good coffee (Which I struggle to find beyond real Italian coffee houses) and some indulgent grub. We lounged about with papers and sat by the window for excellent people watching. Lovely staff and a good selection of drink. It is a cool place that isn't too hipster- highly recommend it! (Like their FB page- you'll get updates on their band gigs and different nights)

Warm and friendly environment, great place to work/meet with a coffee in the day, easy going bar in the evening and plenty to choose from at night from dance DJs to good live music. Highly recommended.

I have been to Babble Jar a couple of times and loved the vibe. The nights they running are always interesting and the food and cocktails are amazing! I would definitely recommend it for their happy hour cocktails and yummy nachos.
