This parkside spot may dish up full English breakfasts and classic caff grub of a morning, but come the evening it turns into a thriving local bistro with a menu mixing Turkish and European fare. The pavement tables are popular with couples and families in summer; the interior is cosy, with a model ship hanging from the ceiling, open brickwork and woven fabric banquettes – a little old-fashioned, perhaps, but good enough for a date if you’re on a budget. A mixed meze platter featuring superb saksuka, cacik and rich houmous was followed with decent lamb and falafel pitta sandwiches served with salad and fries – all very filling. There’s also a list of pasta and burger options.
