A takeaway hatch and marble-topped tables is an odd juxtaposition, but so is a Turkish fish and chip joint in the Jewish heartland of Edgware. On this evidence, multiculturalism is a marvellous thing: the menu is simple, the fish fresh and the service kindly. Though the houmous and taramasalata are excellent, don’t fill up on them, as this will mean missing first-rate fish and chips. Fish are the usual species: cod, plaice, haddock, some filleted, some on the bone. They’re especially good when breaded with matzo meal (battered is available; the griddled fish is crisp outside and tender inside). The chips have no excess grease, and the bill is fat-free too: even service is left off, despite the fact we were offered tea or coffee on the house, and that staff waited politely for us to leave an empty restaurant late at night. The only cultural misstep (apart from a wine list as plain as the food menu and far less enticing) is the serving of sliced pickles as a palate cleanser. These large, crunchy pickles deserve the company of pitta bread and houmous. But that’s not, as they say in these parts, much of a kvetch.

I go to Booba's with my friend Jean every two to three weeks and have been for the last few years. The meals are superb and we are greeted by Carmen and the boys who are extremely caring and friendly. It is the best fish restaurant I have ever been to and wouldn't go anywhere else for my fish and chips. Alma and Jean

This place is a secret hideaway on the edge of London between Edgware and Mill Hill. Delicious light fried fish with the option of matzameal and the least greasy 'proper' chips you're likely to find! Don't let the dated decor fool you, the service is friendly and the food of a very high standard (as long as you avoid the salad).

We have been eating at Booba's wonderfully friendly and atmospheric Fish & Chip Restaurant for numerous years. The food is guaranteed fresh and extremely tasty. On every visit, we are welcomed heartily by Carmen, serving, not forgetting the friendly 'backroom boys.' Very highly recommended!

We keep returning to this great little restaurant. Fish is always fresh, chips are superb and the service is always friendly. Highly recommended!
