Burger & Lobster West India Quay

Time Out says

Please note, Burger and Lobster’s menu is now full a la carte and prices have changed. Time Out Food editors, January 2018.

This West India Quay branch of Burger & Lobster has its lobster tank on view, so you can see what you'll be eating, if you're into that kind of thing. Alternatively you can watch the bartenders whip you up a fancy cocktail from the comfort of a barstool, or sit down to a more private meal at your own table.

Born from the minds of four schoolmates on a rooftop in London, this restaurant chain grew from a pop-up in a Mayfair boozer to ten branches London-wide, and more to boot around the the world.

In case the name isn't enough of a hint, these guys specialise in lobsters and burgers. It might come across gimmicky, but ignore that initial impression because if you're after good lobster, you'd be hard pressed to find it at better value for money than here. You can get a lobster (boiled, grilled or in a brioche roll with mayo) with a substantial salad and french fries for £23-£31, depending on how you have it and which branch you're in. For a smaller budget, the beef burgers will set you back £16.

Times have changed... They now offer more than three things on the menu and prices have gone up! Lobster is still lobster though mmm... Wheelchair access ✔️

The lobster roll deal (lobster roll and chips) is delicious, great amount of lobster and a lovely soft tasty brioche bun washed down with a crisp glass of prosecco  you can't go wrong. Decor is glitzy but not naff and the ambience is lively. Great treat for an impromptu after work dinner.

Being someone who doesn't eat lobster, or fish, or any creature of the sea I've not really had this restaurant on my radar. Sure they do burgers but isn't the lobster the main event?

With a friend visiting from abroad keen to try it I finally made it to the Canary Wharf restaurant for a lunch date.

I had a burger. A burger topped with short rib and BBQ sauce and cheese and gherkins and onions....and a seedy bun. The meat was juicy and pink inside with a nice charred outside. The cheese was oozy. The bun kept its integrity. There were sweet potato fries (bit over cooked) and BBQ sauce (sweet and sticky).

My friend opted for the combo so got a burger and a lobster. She enjoyed it but it defeated her - she wisely prioritised the meat over the fries and bun.

The cocktail list looks good and I imagine of an evening the atmosphere is pretty cosy in this branch.

I was definitely pleasantly surprised but given the burger options in London now I'm just not sure the price justifies the product - but for the lobster eaters out there I suppose the opposite is true.

If you're happy to splash the cash though it makes a welcome change from the more common chains in the area.

I was a bit tentative with the fusion of burger, lobster initially. Being a huge seafood lover I wasn't sure they could pull it off by doing both equally well. But it was a compromise for date with my meat loving BF so we gave it a go.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the food quality, atmosphere and lovely cocktails they had to offer,

food is decently priced but the drinks are very pricey.

You need to choose between lobster, hamburger or lobster sandwich - all for the same price . It is absolutely great! The environment is very cosy! The waitresses are very very kind and available!

Good food, simple menu, easy date night!

Good cocktails, tasty lobster and a helpful staff! They have a burger with meat and lobster on top which is amazing! The lobster itself is very tasty and comes with chips and salad aside and you can share with someone a bit of both! I´d go for the grilled lobster and the "Tokyo" cocktail. Don´t expect cheap meals...well, it´s lobster!
