Magical place! Candles, intimate atmosphere, jazz, tasty but fair priced negroni and tasty tarts - you could not ask for more on a lazy Saturday evening. You can also listen to live music during the week or pop by for a coffee in the morning hours.

It's fair to say people don't often come to Oval, unless it's for the weekly summer 20:20 cricket at the Kia Oval when the place is overrun with chinos and pink shirts, however Cable Cafe should definitely give Londoners a reason to come more often. It's quite surprising to find the cafe nestled in Brixton Road alongside takeaways and opposite the local gym, but it really is a gem. The nostalgic decor, pine walls and mis match furniture make the place quite unique. There's a variety of drinks on offer, from cocktails to wine, as well as beer and coffee for the daytime visitors. Cable cafe does a good job of transitioning from day to night. By day it's full of local freelancers beavering away on laptops, whilst savouring a coffee or speciality tea, and by night the live jazz comes on and the daytime workers are replaced by evening wine drinkers.

I love the cable cafe!! During the day, this little cafe is full of creative types on their laptops, drinking coffee and eating cake. It is a great place to take your laptop and have a productive caffeine filled afternoon. Do note, they do not serve food, only cakes. But if you are around on a Saturday, you are normally able to purchase some snacks from the Oval farmers market down the street and bring it in. In the evening, they serve great cocktails, exotic beers and wine (all great value for London). On Tuesday evenings they even have live jazz, which matches the cafes dark and creative ambiance wonderfully. I highly recommend checking out the cable cafe, but if you aren't planning to come down as far as Oval, you should definitely check out it's sister bar, Scooter Bar, on lower marsh by Waterloo which is nearly as cool.

A great little find just by Oval tube station, charismatic and trendy, with a casual and cosy atmosphere. In the evenings they serve proper cocktails which are delicious, especially the Espresso Martinis. There isn't an overwhelming choice of drinks but it doesn't really matter because it makes up for it in everything else! In the daytime the bar vibe disappears and its a cafe instead, with what my guess would be, really good coffee and really good cakes...I'll have to go back!

Finding Cable Cafe after 2 years of living in a 5 minute radius had been bittersweet. Happiness has been rife, as I now have a cafe/cocktail bar that perfectly suits my tastes within a spitting distance. The sadness comes in overwhelming waves when I realise that I only have until the end of my lease to enjoy it. The decor and ambience are relaxed, yet quirky and old-fashioned enough to feel like you're in somewhere that little bit special - think mismatched tables, crooning tunes and (best of all) a banjo hung high on the wall. The clientele is a comforting mix of work-at-homers, locked-out-of-house-ers (myself) and catch-up-with-old-friends-ers on a Wednesday afternoon. There's the sense that no one has chosen this place for the location itself, but more its pleasing backdrop for other activities. The speedy wifi is a definite help. The coffee and tea on previous visits has been yummy enough, but the sidecar cocktail sitting before me currently is absolutely delicious. It's difficult to find a sidecar on a menu in London, and one as refined and delicious as this is a rare thing: a rim of sweet and sour sugar is the cherry on the cake. So, come, flock to the cable cafe! (Except don't, because I want to keep it to myself...)
