Cah Chi

In a residential Raynes Park location, unquestionably one of the best Korean restaurants in the London area.

There’s a real warmth to this residential Raynes Park restaurant, which pulls an appreciative crowd of Eastern and Western diners. Even on a cold, dark evening, the dining room feels light and bright – and comfortably cosy. The smiling staff are happy to talk you through a menu that contains more than just the standard array of barbecues, stews and stir-fries. We’re always impressed by the depth and complexity of the flavours here, and our most recent visit was no exception.

Cah Chi is known for its excellent sundae: black pudding stuffed with cellophane noodles. You can have it either au naturel in thick slices with a little salt for dipping, or stir-fried with cabbage, onion and chilli on the table-top grill. The latter version was a glorious combination of textures and flavours, including deeply savoury perilla leaves (kkaennip).

Also first-rate was a side dish of raw, pickled squid strands in a silken, sweet, spicy koch’ujang-based sauce; the seafood had just the right amount of resistance as you bit into it. Even the complimentary panch’an are better than average, with subtle own-made kimchi and sweet, nutty adzuki beans a regular feature. Without doubt, this is one of the best Korean restaurants in the London area.

With the huge variety of Korean restaurants in New Malden, it takes a lot to stand out as one of the best. Cah Chi is definitely one of the best, with brilliant service to go along with their flavour packed food and dishes.

The pickled daikon, kimchee and pajeon are all fantastic (though actually the veggie pancake is better than pajeon i think!), and the bancan that are served to everyone are also fantastic. The much talked about blood pudding sundae is actually surprisingly light with the noodles stuffed inside, and is a great sharing dish for the table. BBQ meat was tender and tasty, and the bibambap packed with veg and rice!

Really enjoyed my time here too as the service was impeccable, the waitress took time to describe different dishes and the whole menu according to our tastes, and suggested the right amount of food for us as a large group to order.

Only issue for me is that given the number of other Korean restaurants in the area and that we are in New Malden (which is fairly cheap anyways) the food here isn't particularly well priced. On the other hand, it really is one of the best Korean restaurants, so overall, 4 stars!
