Delicious, creative food - full of flavour and beautifully presented. The setting is just as impressive: a decorative dining room bathed in natural light from the glass domed roof. Highly recommended!

Okay. I had a big birthday coming up and upon the recommendation of my best friend, decided to book a champagne afternoon tea at Celeste to celebrate. I made the booking months in advance. I'll spare you all of the details, but essentially there was a communication breakdown by the staff at the restaurant and I ended up with no booking for 7 people two weeks before the scheduled date. I was very unhappy and emailed the restaurant manager to voice my disappointment. Well. I received an email from the deputy manager asking if I wouldn't mind receiving a call from him the following day to try to sort out the issue, so the next day we spoke. The gentleman (who is no longer working there, I'm sad to say!) offered his sincerest apologies and told me that if I would still be happy to be a guest of the hotel, they would be pleased to offer me my original booking with some add ons with their compliments: champagne and a beautiful chocolate and blackcurrant cake for myself and my guests. I was floored at the efficiency of the customer service - and mores by the fact that he did not assume I would still want to do business with the hotel. THAT is class, people.

So. Fast forward to the actual date. My friends and I went to the Library Bar at the hotel prior to our tea booking (see my review there) and had a few drinks, then went off to the restaurant for our tea. What a room. Stunning isn't even doing it credit. The table was impeccably laid out, the staff were very attentive and thoughtful - not to mention discreet when filling and refilling cups, plates, etc - and the food was lovely. The champagne and cake were incredible; we ended up staying there for three hours! Needless to say, I had the best birthday I've ever had, and it was all thanks to the staff and their attention to detail. I highly recommend the afternoon tea and by proxy anything else they do there. I will be back for sure.
