Chaopraya Eat-Thai

Chaopraya is a restaurant with pretensions. The walls are burnished gold in parts, boldly patterned in others and highly adorned throughout the ground-floor dining room. The basement is simpler, bigger, but also rather darker. The food, a mix of familiar favourites and the chef’s own inventions, is also embellished with the likes of carved vegetable flowers and little heaps of western salad leaves. A bowl of tom yam koong, served on an oversized rectangular plate, was appropriately hot and sour, and packed with plump prawns. Another starter of pan-fried scallops with the chef’s ‘homemade spicy sauce’ tasted of little other than black pepper – the scallops totally masked. Green chicken curry put things back on track, though, with interesting herbal notes. Our pad thai also had plenty of wow-factor thanks to the skilful lattice-work omelette it was wrapped in.

Chaopraya’s location makes it the perfect stop-off for a post-shopping meal, but the West End postcode does mean that prices are a little higher than average. The staff seemed rather uninterested on our visit, though perhaps this was down to a less than busy restaurant.

I went there last week-end with my friends, everything is excellent!!! The atmosphere and decoration of the restaurant, the quality of service, smile and especially food which is well presented, well flavored and really delicious. This is a restorant not to be missed!

We went out today for a lunch in this over-priced Thai restaurant near Wigmore Street. We settled for the lunch menu that came dry, appeared heated in a microwave and presented rather poorly! When i complained about salmon being dry and that it tasted as if it was cooked this morning and than heated rather than having it freshly prepared; my comment was extremely rudely disregarded and i was told that this was because they have pan-fried it as opposed to steam it which is why it came luke warm and dry. I said this was ridiculous and that i still don't like the taste of it even if that's true, i was told that they were "Sorry." and they have still charged the whole amount of the disgraceful dish (£23!!!)plus the service charge! They have not offered anything to replace the dish that i disliked nor have they appeared sorry that i was an unsatisfied customer! I am never to go back to this place and waste my precious time with my family or my money. Horrible. March 2014

do not go there ! I was there 15 February 2014 with my girlfriend for her birthday, we ordered each a starter and a main course, food is rather high priced, I got my starter and waited for hers to arrive before I started eating, then my main course arrived, they gave this to her as a starter, when informing about this they took the main course away, brought her starter, mine was cold by then. both where fried, crab legs and a papaya salad ! fried, not tempura, but battered like fish, without any taste, really greasy. then all of a sudden when we were still eating her main course arrived, they thought we ordered all at once. ok, we are not difficult, we sent away the starters half finished, asked to bring my main as well, and without any break started on the main course, mine was held warm apparently for the time spent on the starters, so the noodles became a rubber ball, the fish completely dried out and the honey sauce caramelized to something almost solid, horrible. there even was a mistake with wines, I will not go in to. this is not authentic Thai, not even good food in general, service is really bad, we had for every interaction a different waiter, the food is like a Chinese takeaway, absolutely not worth 110 pounds for 40 minutes of a rushed dinner with bad food. thanks for making my girlfriends birthday such a memorable experience !

Absolutely loved it, my husband and I ordered a tom yum soup with prawns, red curry with prawns, angus steak in oyster sauce and the Chef's special fried rice. The quantity was perfect and everything tasted great and it wasnt a heavy meal at all. And for desert we ordered the caramel banana spring roll, delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone. Price wise a bit on the higher end but i thought it was worth it!

A Thai selected award winner, you are guaranteed to be served authentic Thai food. On top of that, the service and the staff are on top of the knot. I would recommend anyone to come here if you're looking for a truly enjoyable and true Thai food with amazing service and friendly staffs serve on top of your experience.

After dining at most Thai restaurants in London and out with, the Chaophaya Eat-Thai is by far the best, quality of the food and service is superb and at one of the main things we look forward to when we visit the city, lovely restaurant and lovely people running it. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Not sure about food, what horrible service I went for lunch on a snowy day. Place was empty and we asked for a table next to the window. The waiter said the table was for 4 people, we insisted as there were 2 other tables for 4 available and that we were happy to move in the unlikely case of 3 groups of 4 people came. The waiter simply said that it was not possible, so we just walked away and ended up having lunch at the place in front. Obviously none came to the Thai place afterwards...

Superb! I was greeted by the friendly staff right at the door, who kindly led me and my boyfriend to our table. We didn't know what to order so we asked the staff for advice, he recommended the chaopraya spring rolls and the spring rolls, for the main course he recommended pad thai prawn and green curry chicken with rice. First come the starter and it was amazing! Follow by the main course. The pad thai prawn got us my surprise, the prawn was massive not only that it tasted good and for the green curry chicken, the flavour was amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone and if you do go, I highly recommend the pad thai prawn because you won't be disappointed. Julia

Nothing special but more important customer service is awful and quite unpleasant. I booked a table but I was turned away with 2 hungry children simply because the kitchen was not ready at the time of opening and I was given quite odd excuse. The manager-waiter is very rude. I can't recommend this place to anyone.
