Venue says Chicken and duck, marinated in herbs and spices, and spit-roasted until golden and gorgeous. Served alongside fresh tasty sides and morsels.

A rotisserie roast chicken (and duck) joint in Finchley Central.

With a name like Chicken Society, this new Finchley Central restaurant must specialise in chicken, right? Wrong. Well, half right. Despite its name and the chicken-themed decor, there isn’t just one bird on the menu here – it also serves rotisserie duck. But if you’re in any doubt as to the general remit, the walls are adorned with neon signs saying things like ‘fire it up’ and ‘bird is the word’ – it all feels slightly overdone.

Happily, the chicken is not. Lightly seasoned with paprika, oregano and garlic, it was perfectly tender and served with a griddled lemon, which was a nice touch. It’s the best thing here. The duck, flavoured with a five-spice rub, was disappointingly dry. Both birds come in quarter, half or full portions. As well as mac ’n’ cheese and crinkle-cut chips (don’t bother with the parmesan and truffle version – they’re not worth £5), there’s also, er, spiralised courgettes. But don’t panic, they’re deep fried – the Hemsley sisters would not approve. The website promises that there’s ‘never been anywhere like the Chicken Society’, which seems a bit much. But it’s a decent enough option if you’re in the area.

Chicken Society says
With the Chicken Society, socialisers and poultry-loving party people rule the roost. Whether you’re dipping in for a chicken quickie or settling in for a barnstorming banquet, you are going to be one happy camper.

Chicken and duck spit-roasted to perfection, served quarter, half or whole. British birds, marinated in a special house blend of herbs and spices, and spit-roasted until golden and gorgeous; basted in their own juices, and as lean as can be. Served alongside fresh and tasty sides and morsels such as parmesan truffle fries, Korean-spiced buttermilk fried chicken thighs, and mac and cheese with smoked cheddar. Plus our famous house-baked brownies.

Oh dear, not a great experience at all! I would avoid!! We were so disappointed as we were regulars in the pub before it changed. We live less than five minutes away and would have been regulars if it wasn't so bad!!! We both work long hours and would have nipped in probably once a week.

We asked for a booth but we're told they were all booked for 13:00, even when the couple next to us wanted to swap as they wanted a table not a booth the manager said no!?? By 13:25 our of the 4 booths one has people in. I thought that was just bad customer service and not welcoming. That was just the start!!!

We wanted to order corn on the cob, which they didn't have as they had sold out. They had only been open for 45 minutes.

We ordered chicken and duck, the duck was fabulous really tasty! The fries were nice, but the chicken was cold. We asked for some hot chicken which the guy was polite and went to get some hot chicken. It came back again luke warm! We were told by the staff that is is 'twice cooked' (reheated), the manager came over to argue that is was 65 degrees, I can assure you it was barley 40/50!

Our meal was free but there was no attempt to take this on board or check the temperature, even the waiting staff said they could feel it was cold. The lady manager was not at all accommodating, friendly or interested in making it a good experience.

We will not be back or recommend this place to anyone. Massive thumbs down and I would be concerned that they are serving under temperature poultry!

Sorry guys, you need to up your game!

It's not bad here,it's not great but it's not bad. As a local I wanted to check Chicken Society out,it seemed like Finchley was getting a little slice of hipsterdom- not a bad thing at all :) I feel it has long way to go before people go out of their way to visit but if you're local and fancy some nice munch,it's worth going. The chicken was better than the duck. It was juicy and flavoursome. The duck was just a bit dry and overdone. One thing you should have is the battered spiralized courgette- yum! The parmesan and sage chips tasted a bit like feet but maybe it's an acquired taste. The salad was ok but lacked flavour. The brownie for dessert (the only thing available) was really nice and the ice cream on top was good. A simple menu and of the school of only a few things to offer. Not a bad addition to Finchley at all.

The first thing you notice when you walk into Chicken Society is the kitchen at the back with an enormous open-flame spit and that unlike most Chicken ‘shops’ in London, it has strayed the focus away from the fried chicken trend.

The boneless buttermilk fried chicken smothered in hot Korean-style BBQ sauce, are sticky, sweet and spicy with a fresh chilli garnish that packs a punch.

The chickens are marinated in paprika, lemon, oregano and garlic for 24 hours, before being spit roasted for about 40-45 minutes over a hot, open flame and served with an unpretentious lemon garnish. This simple and time-tested technique results in a perfectly cooked chicken – tender, moist and packed full of flavour.

The other show-stopper on the menu is the sweet and aromatic duck, which is again marinated for 24 hours before spit cooking with paprika, five spice, garlic and cayenne. Rich and with an air of Asian flavours from the five spice – an absolute must.

On the side, opt for the char-grilled corn cobs oozing melted butter and the Parmesan, sage and truffle oil fries – divine. And, don’t forget to finish it all off with a rich, indulgent, warm and gooey chocolate brownie with a thick, delicious Cornish vanilla ice cream – what’s not to love.

Went there with my nan,I had an amazing meal.Valerio and Ben were amazing Ben even done some magic card tricks.Even the lady chef came over to my nan to see if she was ok as my nan wasn't very well and made my nan and me feel so special she also help my nan with her shopping bags to the cab.I will definitely come back again the food was outstanding and the staff that much more special.

Found this place last night in Finchley. This place is brilliant the service with great and very fast, meals arrived with in ten mins of ordering the food was hot and very tasty what more could you want from a night out!

Defo coming back and soon

Ha e read the other reviews and two that were bad which I totally disagree with especially about rude staff. I have e been there several times wth my husband and friends and family and hs e always experienced happy attentive staff fromm bar/waiters and even the chefs. The atmosphere was lively buzzing and the food was great. Me my family and friends will definitely come back again and recommend.

The food was amazing, I couldn't fault it!! The staff were super friendly and made it a truly great experience!!!

Got to be one of the first early birds (no pun intended ) to experience the greatness of food although I was over satisfied with the  exceptional service provided, I would recommend anyone to check out this great alternative if your fed up with the same old Nando's.

Awesome chicken. Delicious duck. Nice cocktails. Great staff. I love this place. My new favorite restaurant!

Absolutely loved this place. A mood lifting restaurant with 100% attitude from the staff who can't do enough for you (even keep you enterained with magic) The menu is short.. but this helps with decision making. The food is delish ! And we'll be back

Expensive and disappointing, both chicken and duck were dry and bland, not as nice as supermarket spit roasted. The pub before was our local and I really miss it, and the food was better. I will not be returning.

Really great time. Hadn't expected much but had a good meal - we had a 1/2 chicken each and a duck to share between us. Very generous portions and the sides were better than expected. I live nearby and would often go to the pub before it became this, and am very happy with the change. Would recommend it

Very disappointed. Booked a table, were seated by the door and was told there were no other tables available even though another couple came in after us & were seated in one of the booths (that seat 4). Staff were abrupt & rude. All the food came at once, the waiter kept coming to check if it was ok, then asked if we were finished when we clearly weren't and barely gave me a moment to think before taking it. Chicken was bland, as were the fries. There are no main options for vegans/vegetarians so my girlfriend had sides which were equally unimpressive. I reluctantly paid the added 10% tip although wish I hadn't as the waiter was completely unhelpful & rude and seemed annoyed when we asked to split the bill. Will not return.

Great service and delicious food. We had a super lunch with my children. Really friendly staff too!

Love this place, fabulous ambience, delicious food and a great place to meet for a casual meal. Really reasonable and so much food. Also great bar to have a cheeky pre dinner cocktail.. highly recommend.

Given the name we were expecting some great chicken for lunch. Less tasty than Nando's and a little bit dry...especially the breast. Sides were ok. Price reasonable. Really hope that Chicken soc aspires to produce great chicken dinners and raises its game.
