A Vietnamese barbecue restaurant in King's Cross from the chef behind Whitechapel supper club Table for 10.

CôBa is the first permanent site from Viet-Aussie chef Damon Bui, who used to run the hugely popular Table for 10 supper clubs. And it hasn’t come a moment too soon. A classy-looking restaurant with a high-spec industrial finish, it majors in kick-ass Vietnamese barbecue cooking.

The only real downer? CôBa is in a tube no-man’s land, so if you can't get to the Overground, your choice is either a slightly sketchy 15-minute walk from Caledonian Road tube or a slightly sketchy 20-minute walk from King’s Cross station. But do it anyway.

The menu is short, with dishes apparently inspired by the kind of cooking Bui’s mother served him back in Oz. She must have been good. Pork and prawn summer rolls were punchy and refreshing (even though we usually prefer iceberg lettuce to little gem), and great value at £6 for four. Remarkably good prawn toast easily justified its eyebrow-raising price tag of £7.50, with four huge pillows of deliciously soft bread given a flick in the fryer and topped with juicy prawns, fried seaweed, sesame seeds and a winning chilli mayo.

A sublime, crystal-clear beef pho (£10), full of fragrance and flavour, was very nearly the pick of an incredibly good bunch. The only thing better? A belter of a BBQ lemongrass pork noodle salad (£11) with superb, smoky meat and a bucketload of zip from a great nuoc cham sauce, loads of mint and spikes of fresh red chilli.

We left here thankful that Bui has been given license to venture beyond the confines of his living room and into premises proper. He’s probably just pleased there’s someone else to do the washing up.

Best Vietnamese I've had so far in London even if it's on the trendier side. Lamb chops are delicious as well as the shrimp toast. Good service, too. Note to TimeOut: who prefers iceberg lettuce over anything??

We are constantly looking looking for good Vietnamese food in London. This is It! Great food, terrific cocktails, and a great atmosphere. We will definitely return

Best Vietnamese in London. Big call... but I stand by it. The prawn toast is a must.  And the Pho! And the cocktails!

This place is oddly located with not much else surrounding it. There is no sign except on the window so it could be easily missed. Still, it was busy for dinner during the week. It's Australian inspired Vietnamese cuisine so some dishes had a twist to the traditional style I'm used to, but it wasn't bad.

They offered good vegetarian alternatives and the broth in the pho was actually better than in some Vietnamese places I've tried. A bit more on the expensive side compared to other places, but they seem to be doing well.

This place is completely wheelchair accessible with facilities too.

Authentic awesome Vietnamese food that isn't afraid to taste good and look good at the same time. Yummmm!

Amazing food especially the prawn toast - never had prawn toast like it anywhere ever. Fantastic cocktails and great service. One of my favourites

Not just the traditional dishes you'll find in a normal Vietnamese restaurant. Somewhat limited menu, but everything on the menu is just a little different-- and brilliant. Including the drinks.

The food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is nice and chilled. Great hosts and a great night out!

I have been craving this food since I left, it's authentic, fresh and some perfect plates for sharing. The cocktails were unusual and a real treat...nice to enjoy in the chilled trendy vibe here. Already booked a table up for my birthday!

Great food and awesome vibe. Had an excellent night out for a birthday party recently. Can't wait to go back!

Great food, excellent cocktails, wonderful vibe and attentive staff. The owner Damon is also a gem.

Authentic Vietnamese with a modern twist. There is no other restaurant like this in London, and the only one where I crave the food (hello prawn toast!!!). Has all the ingredients I need for the perfect night: delicious food, insanely good cocktails and super friendly staff! What's there not to love??

Last minute to decision to try this place & what a find! Fantastic cocktails !!! And the cake is to die for! With delicious mains in between - all in all a great place with brilliant staff !

The bbq pork is always seasoned perfectly and grilled succulently, mixing beautifully in a bed of noodles and fresh veg. The crab and pork spring rolls are the best I've had in London, full of bold, fresh flavours. The prawn toast is like no other in town, calling it a toast is overly simplifying the brioche like texture. And the cocktails are always top notch. Add a cool vibe and comforting interior, CoBa has been an excellent evening outing every time for me.

The pho was divine. The spicy BBQ chicken was really delicious too! And there were so many creative cocktails to try. And the best part is it's very affordable for London

Cosy and beautifully designer interior! Amazing, fresh and delicious Vietnamese food, with a twist and reinvention on the norm. Plus wonderful cocktails.... what more could you want!!

Absolutely beautiful cocktails like no other, perfectly paired with London's best Vietnamese food. Worth the trip!

Amazing food - prawn toast, fried chicken, BBQ meats - which can be washed down with creative, delicious cocktails. Faultless.

Best Vietnamese place I have been to since being to Vietnam. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was really well decorated and the food was truly delicious and for a reasonable price. The duck ramen was a highlight and the lemon grass salad was also fantastic; so much so we were organising when to visit next mid way through our meal

As soon as we entered this place, we thought - I feel cool... It wasn't pretentious, it was just the right amount of everything to make you feel cool, comfortable and  welcomed. The staff were lovely and the food was incredible! I can't fault it.

Next time I'm all about the cocktails...

Fantastic little place. Atmospheric lighting, attentive staff, and most importantly terrific food. The menu isn't extensive but this means what they do, they do extremely well.
