Please note, this pop-up has now finished. Time Out Food editors.

We do like a good pub pop-up, especially when it pops up again. Darjeeling Express is now back at the Sun & 13 Cantons in Soho for a second run, this time until March 2016. The pukka Indian cookery was right on track: rich flavours and proper spicing. It’s not pub-grub cheap but we’ll happily return. It serves a full lunch menu and bar snacks until 6pm, then reverts to its primary mission: easing the wheels of Soho’s media imbibers, before they go loco.

Asma Khan who is behind the Darjeeling Express recently hosted about 20 friends and me for a birthday dinner extraordinaire here! The menu she created was just perfect – and she took all our feedback into account when she came up with it, i.e. mainly veggie, not too spicy and great value for money.

There were lots of courses of delicious flavour combinations. An onion, dish where the onions were cooked over night and become so sweet and tender I did not recognize them as onions still stands out, as does a cheese dish that had so many levels and depths of flavours that I assumed it was a meat dish.

The newly designed Sun & 13 Cantons was a great setting for it too; dark leather booths in green tiled surroundings with low lighting give it a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere.
