Elephant Walk

If you’ve been to Sri Lanka before, the scent of cloves and cinnamon emanating from the warm, friendly Elephant Walk will spirit you right back to the teardrop spice island. A traditional egg hopper seemed simply flavoured until zingy coconut sambal kicked in, and a South Indian-inspired masala dosa was a generous portion of delicious crisp pancake stuffed with softly spiced potato. Tender lamb and okra curry had hints of cumin, and a lush pumpkin curry featured large wedges of succulent veg floating in a smooth sauce of coconut and ground spices. A flaccid naan bread brought the average down a little, but sweetened with a salt lassi and presented with a bill under £30, we left singing the place’s praises.
