EDG is a refreshing newcomer to the local cafe scene in Balham. Whether it's a caffeine fix or a banana shake you're after, you know it will be top-quality and that the small owner-led team will be on hand to serve you.

The coffee is from the highly-rated South London roastery, Volcano, and there's a variety of food served alongside (try the great bacon and egg baguette or the amazing chocolate brownies).

EDG also sells bread and whole cakes, so you can stock up on supplies, or simply relax with a selection of travel guides and plan your next Escape!

I just love this place. Lovely relaxing atmosphere, fab coffee, great cakes and lovely people to boot. And it's SO much nicer to give my custom to a local place than a huge chain. Love it!

Deliciously indulgent cakes, locally sourced coffee and a chilled out vibe.

A chilled out local coffee shop, great to escape from the stress of the day with a great tasting cuppa

PROPER coffee for proper coffee lovers! These guys really know their stuff.... as do the people that bake their delicious cakes and pastries.

Nice touch with the travel books dotted around the cafe to allow a little wanderlust while you get a caffeine top up, and lovely friendly staff too.

Something about this relaxed and down to earth coffee shop reminds me of an Antipodean cafe, and sure enough, when I walk in the guy behind the counter greets me with a Sydney twang. Admittedly it's from two years in Sydney before he returned to the UK, but good thing he did, because he really made me an excellent flat white. I would even venture to say one of the best flat whites I've had outside of the Antipodes. If I hadn't been on my way to work I would have hung around a bit longer and tried one of the tasty looking cakes on the counter. This could become my new local...

Great Coffee delicious cakes friendly comfortable atmosphere a lovely place to go

Great coffee, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Décor with a travel theme; travel books to browse.

Enjoyed the most delicious brownie whilst relaxing and watching the world go by. So glad I decided to try it out!

Fantastic little find. My husband and I sat for an hour waiting for a friend who was running late and we got to unwind a little.

Superb coffee, fantastic sandwiches and a friendly welcome. What's not to love?

A tantalising selection of cakes and excellent coffee with a more chilled out vibe than some of the other coffee places in Balham

Great coffee and lovely helpful staff. Great place to kick back and relax.

In a town with plenty other coffee shops, Escape the Daily Grind is an oasis for those who like their coffee strong, their bacon sandwiches meaty and their bread crusty. New to the area but an independent shop that punches above its weight! Good cake too!

Nice coffee. Nice Bacon Sandwiches. And unlike their rival Milk, you don't have to wait 30 minutes for it.
