Time Out says

We doubt that the capacity of this tiny spot makes it very far into double digits. But though the choice of food and drink is comparably minimal – just espresso-based coffees, a soup of the day, a sandwich or two and a few baked goods – customers love the ER, as do we. It’s like a little shrine to espresso, made with largely consistent skill using beans from Caravan.

The blend is bracing stuff, but with just enough sweetness to make it enjoyable without sugar.Occasionally we get an imperfect cup, but on our last visit it was textbook stuff (apart from being just a tiny bit too cool). The best place to sit, weather permitting, is at one of the small tables outside. Service is from smiling, friendly people who evidently love what they do and show off their prodigious technical skills in the most modest way possible.

Very very average and a complete rip off. Obviously local workers (the more highly paid ones) don't mind parting with their money for second rate coffee as it's right across the road from the hospitals. I can afford it but I don't like being taken for a mug so I won't darken their doorway again. Sad to see mums and dads walk over from the children's hospital for a break just to get fleeced. I'm a long time coffeeholic and I know my coffees somewhat better than these guys. Shockingly bad. Wonder if it's owned by a couple of medics.

Excellent, excellent espresso coffee, and though I'd say the filters are a bit lacking, this must be taken as a small criticism; I'd still drink them. On another note, bizarre review. The crema's too thin? If the espresso tasted perfect that really seems a moot point.

I have been visiting ER since it opened and I think it's the best flat white in town . Perhaps, Mocca or Latter is not so good (have never tried) but if you have a passion for a strong and tasty coffee -- this is place for you. I think there is some kind of a joke in this name as 2 world renown hospitals nearby doesn't have an ER:)

The staff are very friendly, the coffee tastes good but it isn't HOT!! Can't bear cold coffee so won't be returning.

This place is an independent coffee shop star! Excellent beans, love that they do guest coffees but you also gotta love their house, Square Mile. Excellent espresso!

We went out of our way to try this place due to all the positive feedback. Perhaps they specialize in lattes of flat whites, in any case, my wife and I ordered two mochas. Both were extremely milky, barely luke-warm, weak in coffee and a faint taste of Choc syrup. We were quite disappointed especially at the price of 3 pounds. Unfortunately we were in a hurry so couldn't give feedback at the time, but if your a mocha lover beware!

I've been going here for over a year. Excellent drinks and great staff. @Sarah McIlwaine - shame you didn't enjoy your drink - did you say anything at the time? I've only had a bad drink once and they were really keen to put it right.

I've been using this place twice a week for about the last six months. The coffee has been consistently good and the best I have tasted in London. They deserve all the praise they have been getting. I guess the other reviewer likes to go against the crowd.
