Seven years in East End and I’ve never tried a proper greasy spoon until now. Having tried amazing pies in a few pubs around the city, I was really looking forward to the traditional ones. To our surprise, they had vegan option on the menu. As they were freshly made for us, which took time, we were advised to kill the time at the nearby market. When we were ordering, there was only one customer eating in, we had thought that when we come back, we would have a great opportunity to take pictures of the slowly disappearing cockney world. But when we came back, the place was absolutely rammed. We took it as a good sign that the food would be smashing. Ten minutes later our veggie pies were still not ready (guess the locals had priority), but when they arrived, we wished we had never ordered them. Both the pie and mash were tasteless, the veggies were overcooked, the pie was mostly soggy, and the veggie sauce was truly disgusting. Maybe the meat eaters know the secret to this place, but for me it was just a reminder of why the English cuisine used to have such a bad press for such a long time.

Amazing traditional Pie n Mash! Original surroundings and plenty of East End atmosphere. One of my favourite places to eat! Every visitor to London should try this traditional London food! :) ***** food!
