Freggo

Freggo brands itself an ice-cream bar and has a decor to match, with mirrored walls, purple furnishings and silver bar stools and tables. The business also distinguishes itself by being an Argentinian ice-cream bar. The choice of flavours is limited and divided into groups of creamy, chocolatey, fruity, and the Argentinian speciality dulche de leche-based ice-creams. After a few tasters it becomes clear that Freggo’s ice-cream is not as creamy as the Italian variety and that the flavours are all rather sweet.

The dulche de leche ones are especially syrupy; they include Temptation, consisting of dulche de leche ice-cream with caramel sauce – so a sort of double dulche de leche. Nevertheless, dulche de leche and chocolate, with its tiny dark chocolate chips, made a surprisingly delightful combination with the fresh malbec and berries sorbet. You might also find other Argentinian foodstuffs on the menu here, such as alfajores, a shortbread-type cookie, and savoury empanadas. Sadly, neither was available on our visit.
