The first London outpost of a burgeoning bistro-style Thai chain with branches across the UK, Giggling Squid brings some Thai zing to Wimbledon Village. At lunchtime, you can pick from various tapas-style small plates or go for a ‘two dish meal combi’ featuring the likes of spring rolls, pork dumplings, curries and stir-fries. In the evening, the kitchen raises its game for a 40-dish menu that spans everything from the ‘massively popular’ salt-and-pepper squid to watermelon salad with pork ‘floss’, confit duck with tamarind sauce, hake with dry green curry and stir-fried morning glory (greens) with oyster sauce – plus the usual Thai suspects. Veggies, vegans and those who want gluten-free are happily accommodated – as are other dietary needs. Wines are a well-chosen bunch, too.
