Lordship Lane is East Dulwich’s dining and drinking destination and Hisar is an established fixture. There’s a takeaway to one side as well as a substantial, brown-toned restaurant. Here, a large ocakbası holds pride of place, wafting fragrant smoke and sending forth an endless stream of kebabs (billed as ‘Bar-B-Que Pit Specials’), as well as assorted grilled fish dishes. There's a large range of starters both hot and cold, preparation for one of the grilled offerings (which include steaks as well as the usual skewers and chops) or one of their numerous casserole dishes. Alti ezmeli (chunks of grilled lamb served in a tomato sauce with red and green peppers and herb butter) is a rich, satisfying. Islik kebab is tender-stewed lamb wrapped in a parcel of soft aubergine and cooked in a fragrant sauce. There are vegetarian dishes too, and very reasonably priced side dishes, but most people come here (and Hisar is highly popular) for the family-friendly atmosphere, the hearty portions, reasonable prices and grilled meats galore.

There is also a lunch special consisting of 2 courses for £8.95, 7 days a week.

Been four times. Delicious, authentic food. Very pleasant service. Reasonable prices.

Re: suspiciously negative reviews below- who goes to a Turkish to drink Sangria???

I've been to Hisar a few times for a takeaway and their food has always been good. But this was the first time for a sit down meal in their restaurant.

We ordered a mixed grill, salmon dish and their Shawarma doner kebab. Everything was delicious. Their Shawarma is absolutely delicious. So much nicer than a regular kebab. The mixed grill came as standard. Lamb chop, chicken wings, chicken shish and lamb adana; it was all pretty good. The salmon was well cooked and was a huge piece!

A tip, go for wheat rice as opposed to chips. Chips are boring and you can get them anytime. The rice makes it more authentically Turkish and it's really good!

The restaurant always appears to be fairly busy, which shows how good their food is! A real Lordship Lane gem.

I have dreams about it sometimes.
Best quality meat and fish over a BBQ pit.

It's great value for money, always fresh, staff are really friendly - an affordable night out to feed the whole family or meet friends!

Fantastic restaurant, amazing friendly waiters, wonderful food, great atmosphere. table for two or a great party, they look after you no matter what your needs are. Love this place

Hisar, hisar and hisar...definitely number one for all the way❤️❤️❤️

I've been to that restaurant 5 times ,the food was not well done , it was suitable for dog not human being ,the manager had an attitude problem , I was very unsatisfied with the shawarma , and I brought it up to the manager she was talking to me as she didn't car , just grabbed the money from my hand AVOID THEM I WOULDNT EAT IN THAT RESTURANT AGAIN IF THEY GAVE ME FREE MEAL FOR LIFE ..

Very dissapointed! They charged me over £20 for a jug of Sangria which is in fact just cheap orange juice, a bit of red wine and water! It looked horrible! Nando's makes a much better Sangria with a real fruits and a wine. The worst thing was that they served a bad rice to my meal. I reported this to the waiter and surprisingly he started arguing with me, not offering a fresh cooked rice. I was absolutely shocked and will never recommend this restaurant. Horrible service - I wish we did something else this Tuesday. With so many wonderful restaurant places in East Dulwich, I wonder how this one survives.
