So friendly and vegetarian or meat dishes are both delicious. Sharing and eating the traditional Ethiopian way is a great fun experience I highly recommend and novices are welcome including great help on which combinations of dishes :)
Kokeb is hands down the best Ethiopian food I have eaten anywhere - and one of my favourite restaurants in London. I eat here at least a couple of times a month and am always in a much better mood when I leave than when I arrive. Don't miss it.
Ever wanted to feel like you had an Ethiopian granny? If you're stuck with northern European genes, Kokeb is the closest you're likely to get. Getenesh welcomes you at the door, talks you through the food, takes your order, cooks the food, serves it and waves you off at the door. The place was relatively quiet on the weekday evening we visited, but I don't know how she manages with a full house. The food is fantastic and with Getenesh's help even someone new to Ethiopian food with feel right at home. And don't expect a drop to be wasted - anything left on your plate will be packed into a doggy bag - at Getenesh's insistence!
I have been to this restaurant a zillion times and I am never disappointed. The hostess is remarkable and never fails to recommend the best dish. I have been to a number to Ethiopian restaurant nearer to where I live but I am always disappointed (I guess once you get used to a certain standard it is hard to move down a notch.) I would highly recommend this place if you are into a homely atmosphere with no glitz and show, but just plain scrumptious food and a welcoming feel. And yes, you will be told off if you order too much and do not finish :P, kinda home away from home.
Getenesh is something else. We had an Ethiopian mother for an hour and a half. She even told us how proud she was we'd finished our dinner. 5/5 would go again
