Konditor & Cook

Restaurants, Pâtisseries Waterloo

Gerhard Jenne caused a stir when he opened this bakery on a South Bank side street in 1993, selling rudie gingerbread people for grown-ups and lavender-flavoured cakes. It’s now a mini chain with a few branches (including a swanky café in the Gherkin). The distinctive folds of the whisky and orange bombe make it one of the best-known cakes in the range.

Look out especially for seasonal treats such as pumpkin pie in October and mince pies in December, and don’t miss the terrific hot chocolate, made with double cream and Valrhona couverture. Quality prepacked lunchtime salads, sandwiches and sausage rolls are also available.

Branches throughout city.

I would happily eat their Fudgepacker brownies for every single meal if a) they weren't the fattiest, gooiest, chocolatiest, salted carameliest product on Earth and b) I didn't feel mildly offensive each time I ordered them. Seriously, eat one now. Go. GO! Borrow my Oyster card!
