So I hear that this place is an East London institution, and it came highly recommended by many people - and by many websites. No muss, no fuss, just good proper pie and mash. And well, I did get what I asked for.

Pros: I loved the surroundings. The restaurant is beautiful, all tile and dark wood. Not what you'd expect in Walthamstow in the midst of the central marketplace area that is usually littered with rubbish of all sorts.

Cons: The food itself was very bland. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be; the tastebuds of the folk who are more likely to frequent this place are perhaps still tuned to the olden days. I don't know. But I found the whole thing to be rather blah. The mash, while plentiful, wasn't seasoned very well - save for the "liquor" aka parsley sauce, which I couldn't tell if I liked or hated. It congealed pretty quickly.

Look, I'm not trying to hate on British custom, okay? I think my mouth just wanted more richness and flavour from something held in such high esteem.
