A lovely little shabby-chic café situated behind Waterloo station that serves fry-ups alongside sweets such as chocolate beet cookies, which turn out alluringly pink.

One of my favourite coffee hideouts in London. The Alchemy coffee is just exceptional. The baristas are always friendly. The atmosphere is chilled out. But above all, the chocolate stout cake is to die for.

Absolutely love this place - divine coffee, great food, wonderful service and a friendly, warm atmosphere. Very highly recommended by this international Londoner.

Great atmosphere, even better coffee. Staff are passionate about what they do

Super friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and expert coffee. Love & Scandal is one of the best coffee shops in a brilliant location. Go on a Saturday and try their brunch menu - take friends, a laptop, a book or just yourself - the staff will always be up for a chat!

Absolutely the very best coffee in London served in a super cool atmosphere by charming baristas. Smashing food too. Love and Scandal is the bomb.

Off the beaten track, this welcome retreat offers superb coffee and a suite of tasty eatables prepared freshly on site. The staff are relaxed, and genuinely friendly. The decor is exposed and retro, with neat touches that hark back to yesteryear. All in all, a great place to hang out and return to.

When I saw this opportunity to put pen to paper (well putting fingers to keyboard just doesn't work does it) and providing accolades for my favourite Establishment I said to myself "Self this is an opportunity that simply could not be missed”. So please stay with me for a short while I ramble and occasionally talk to myself. Now let me tell you there are many establishments that can produce an acceptable cup of what I deem to be the "Nectar Of Life" (some refer to it as Coffee). But none that come close to delivering this essential part of life (so to speak) with such a premium degree of professionalism, ambiance and a truly genuine love of delivering good service and attending to customers needs. While the expression “going above and beyond” has perhaps lost its impact these days, but Love and Scandal redefines the meaning and really does go above and beyond to not only deliver but indeed surpasses my high expectations in regard to all aspects of a customer experience. Stand out staff are the Barista Scarlett (?) and there is a new face very recently a Bubbly and Effervescent Aussie girl Jess. But all the staff work brilliantly as a team to provide a great package of my favourite beverage (Coffee), enticing gastronomic delights (some may call it food) and friendly and attentive service that in my mind is equal to none. But wait there is more, and while I strayed into the Love & Scandal initially because I am self confessed Coffee Addict, I have also become very fond of their food range in particular their Saturday Brunch “The Scandal” is highly recommended. I could go on but this verbal dialogue has probably tested your attention time span well beyond the now "now listen carefully" recommended guidelines and so I shall this by saying if you haven't yet experienced Love & Scandal please do you yourself a favour and drop by there sometime and experience it for yourself.

Friendliest staff, such a chilled vibe. Good for working or socializing. Great coffee and a range of interesting eats :)

Love, love the friands here. And the chocolate stout cake. Coffee is also excellent and they have wifi for the laptop warriors working at the communal table at the back. (Actually, the communal table is worth seeing: probably the biggest in London.)

The coffee here is always exceptional, they put a lot of effort into it. They use Alchemy and serve espresso, filter and cold brew. The staff are very sweet as well and really welcoming.

Awesome brunch on Saturday, just awesome. Proper flat whites too with newspapers and great wifi. Aussies and Kiwis, this is the cafe you've been looking for.

My go-to indie coffeeshop. Uses the best beans (Alchemy) and makes a fantastic latte. The wifi is fast and the decor is kooky enough to be memorable as 'that cafe with the comics'. Unpretentious and the staff are pretty nice, and not too pricey either.

Hands down the best coffee in Waterloo/Southwark, and one of my top 5 coffee places in London. L&S is reliably good - I haven't once been let down by them. And you actually get the type of coffee you ordered - not a lazy generic 'milky espresso coffee' passed off as a cappuccino, flat white, etc.

I walk past other cafés to come here. Unique, delicious baked goods, awesome coffee and super-friendly staff. Dinosaurs and reliable WiFi.

My experience at Love and Scandal was awesome! The coffee was amazing and the cake was even better. I even got to meet the baker and she's one talented lady. Really welcoming and friendly vibe. Is the baker single?

Super friendly service even with queues out the door, the staff always have time and commitment to sharing knowledge on third-wave coffee and offering new options such as oat milk and chocolate aubergine cake, advice on home brewing methods, and recommendations and good links with other businesses on Lower Marsh. A real local hub filled with everyday regulars who work and socialise from Love and Scandal or just pop in on their morning run, add it being dog friendly with lots of vegan options and outstanding saturday brunch offerings, and you've got a coffee shop which is really going to grow in the coming months and years.

Lovely little coffee shop!! Super Lovely People!

I came across these guys because they are highly rated in London's Best Coffee app for specialty coffee. They deserve it - they serve Alchemy coffee as espresso, filter, cold brew and they take a lot of care with it. Sandwiches are big and hand made every day in their own kitchen. Check out their Reuben - the salt beef on rye is the best I've had in London.

It's a really cute little spot with a menu that'll cater to almost all needs which is exactly what drew us, a mixed bunch of eaters, into the place. Prices are a little steep for what's on offer (nearly a fiver for a turmeric latte?!) but the quality of everything we ordered was good.

Despite only ordering 3 plates of food between us they each came out at very different times with the last plate of hot food arriving after the first two were finished. Requests for soy milk were totally missed and it felt like the last plate had been forgotten about until we flagged it. It was all a bit haphazard and irritating.

I was in search for the perfect turmeric latte and I think I found it. Love and Scandal not only have high quality drinks and food but a team to match. Very welcoming individuals served me as well as had some good banter. I had an oat milk turmeric latte which is perfectly sweet as well as spicy- the kick I was looking for. Stop by when in the Waterloo area for great service, amazing drink and food as well as relaxed vibes when you sit in.

New owners who can't make a decent coffee. Completely different cafe with less attention to detail and no appreciation of good coffee. Better off going to the couple of other cafes on the same street.

I hunted this place down the other Saturday morning. I'd read reviews and was excited to try it. Just around the street from Waterloo station. I really wanted to love this place. Very limited and mostly communal seating but we found a table. They weren't extremely busy but we wanted a table where we could talk. We both ordered the poached eggs and avocado on sourdough and lattes. On the board they said they had Golden Milk but when we asked they had run out of supplies to make it. Disappointing. The coffee was served right away but not hot so we had to drink it right away. The food took FOREVER. They brought one plate out and looked at us confused so they obviously hadn't made two. Now for the biggest sin...it was cold. Stone cold and the eggs were hard boiled, not a drop of goo. They had given it to my friend who has never had this for breakfast...and I thought she would be physically ill trying to eat it. After what felt like ages they brought the other one out...this one was properly made so I switched and gave her the new one. Now really how hard is it to poach eggs and put them on toast with some avocado spread on it??? I was so disappointed by the whole food adventure. I really wanted to rave about this place...it's got a very hipster feel to it and I wanted a place to frequent when I was in the area. But really...I can't say my first impression was worth the 5 stars others have given it. It's not cheap...I think our breakfast was £7something. Oh and I had asked for no feta on mine but there was feta on both.

Tastemaker

Three full stars for the tastiness of the mixed veg (chickpeas/quinoa) combo. Minus two though for the nutty price: £4.5 for an admittingly small portion. Also got a mediocre vegan chocolate brownie. But the space is minimalistic and cute.
