A trattoria-style Italian restaurant and pizzeria, just a couple of minutes from Angel tube station. There's a Mediterranean feel to the room, with exposed brickwork, an open-plan kitchen and images of the homeland adorning the walls. Al fresco seating should prove popular come summertime.

There's an emphasis on authenticity here, with the menu ranging from bruschetta, focaccia and antipasto misto to spaghetti alla carbonara, seafood linguine, vitello alla Milanese and gambero alla diavolo - king prawns cooked in white wine, garlic and chilli, served with rice. A range of pizza - including calzone - do brisk business.

The wine list focuses on bottles from Italy, with whites, reds and rosés alongside a range of prosecco. Keep an eye out for set menus and special offers, too.

On a ridiculously busy Tuesday evening you could have forgiven the staff at Mangia Bene for being a tad short and stressed. Nothing could have been further from the truth. A warm welcome awaited us as we were shown to our cosy corner table. The interior is inviting - nothing particularly stood out, but everything felt lived in and homely whilst also feeling clean and fresh. There's an extensive menu of very reasonably priced dishes (for central London at least - think £7-10 for a pizza or pasta main). The house red was palatable and the tomato/garlic pizza bread was utterly divine. The base was well-cooked, the garlic prominent and it was all piping hot and extremely inviting. Our mains of risotto and pollo Milanese were also very pleasant, and we had truly the most wonderful evening as the good food was joined with the waiters' buoyant attitude. Keep it up Mangia Bene - we'll be back!

The food at Mangia Bene is delicious and the staff members are always quick and kind. I regularly go for dinner or lunch. It's a real gem in Angel. I recommend the veal! And their pasta sauce is wonderful!

Fairly priced and one of the not-so-many places open on a Sunday afternoon in the area, Mangia Bene is a good option, mainly if don’t want Indian or Vietnamese. It’s not the best Italian food you’ll ever eat, but it’s nice: we all ordered different dishes and they’re all reasonably tasty and good sized. My only real complain was the game on TV that was quite loud – but I don’t know how frequently this happens, and actually some people were (also loudly) quite happy to be watching the game...
