Megan's Deli

A King's Road café, restaurant and bar open for more than a decade. It looks the part, with gingham tablecloths, wooden tables, baked goods in the window and rubbed-down dressers providing the shabby-chic café kitsch. A garden, with flora and fairylights, is lovely.

There's a Mediterranean feel to the food menu. Popular weekend brunches include eggs benedict, waffles with berries and cream, salads, soups, quiches and heartier bits and bobs cooked on the grill. Lunches combine daily specials with colourful salads sitting appetisingly on display.

The evening focuses on grills, with beef sourced from Aubrey Allen. Expect hand cut bavettes, chargrilled rib-eyes, homemade burgers and cote de boeuf for two alongside marinated chicken skewers with lemon, garlic and oregano, grilled fillet of stone bass and swordfish skewers served with charred roasted vegetables. Sharing boards prove popular, too.

I LOVE this place the atmosphere is fantastic and the food is wonderful. The concept keeps me coming back every week and telling friends about this place ...DISPITE the appalling service. Unlikely to offer service through their own initiative (a miracle which i have not yet seen) you usually will end up having to physically get up and demand service from the staff. It is unlikely you will see a drink within 20 minutes- if you do at all. I have had to ask three or four times, and waited 40 minutes for a coffee on numerous occasions. I was there today for two hours with someone else’s cold tea pot staring at me from my table- no one served me the duration of the time I was there. I had to get up myself for a drink. Yet i still go back! A testament to the deli as a whole. But they wont last long if any competition emerges with half decent service i'm afraid.... Watch out for the cafe soon opening on the Lotts road Megans!!!

I absolutely love this place!

Service is faultless- it seems to be ingrained in their way of working to make you feel looked after.

Whether it’s lunch for 2, or a party of 10, Megan’s is the place to go. I’ve come here for a hen do lunch which is normally the stuff of nightmares for restaurants, but Megan’s couldn’t have been more attentive and accommodating- even letting us decorate our table beforehand.

Our glasses were constantly topped up (we opted for bottomless bubbly of course!) and when we struggled to finish our food (huge planks of sharers), they packed it all up for us to takeaway.

The main restaurant is small, with a takeaway counter service at the front. Downstairs is a marquee that’s decorated beautifully, very comfortable and surprisingly warm- even on the cold, snowy day that we went.

They’re not voted ‘best brunch Chelsea’ for nothing. From 2-6 every weekend they do 90 minutes of free-flowing drinks with any brunch main for £18 with any brunch main.

For me, their group-shared food is the best- we had an antipasti platter to start and beef (done medium and tender), butternut squash and halloumi as the main. The portions were generous and it was all cooked exceptionally well.

If I had to fault it, they could do with more loos. But otherwise it’s perfect!

No allergy menu, Rude Staff! Go if you enjoy being shouted at and made to feel stupid!

One of the worst places I have been to in London. I went with 4 other friends for a quiet drink and hopefully something to eat. As a severe allergy suffer i always worry about trying out new places in fear I won't be taken seriously. So I go in ask the barista if they have soya milk in stock, she turns around and says no and carries on. I ask her again if she had another alternative? She replied no. I saw on the menu they had Coconut milk, so I ask her again " Do you have an alternative to dairy milk?" she plonks down the cup she's holding and tells me they have coconut milk and turns her back to me.

So we are seated in an area downstairs, and whilst the menu's are handed out I ask if I could possibly have an allergy menu- and they tell me they don't have one. I state its a Law requirement for all food establishments to have one and the waitress hurry off before I can ask her to find out what I could eat. 15 minutes later, a waiter comes over to take everyones order, I ask again for an allergy menu- told the same thing but I ask if there is anything I could eat as I'm allergic to Dairy products. Ignores my request and my Fiancé demands to speak to the manager. The waiter disappears and another waitress comes back telling me I can eat a nut Loaf with Honey in, I thank her for finding out but I decline the Nut cake.

When the food comes out, the order- someone in translation, got mixed up. They brought out a glass of wine instead of a bottle of wine, one friend ordered monacan mint tea- got given another tea, they got the ice cream wrong and one of the desserts my friend had looked unappetizing compared to the other two that came out at the same time.

The Manager comes over, and starts shouting at me, three seats away- which is highly unprofessional- she should of asked to speak to me away from my friends, especially in front of guests!

She tells me they don't have an allergy menu. They have one online (I checked after she went and they don't!), I can eat the nut loaf cake and they have coconut milk and I should be grateful they have something that I can eat but am rudely declining. I explain to her I don't feel like eating a nut loaf, I am not fond of coconut milk in my tea and I reminded her that its a Law requirement for all food establishments to have an allergy menu- or at least an ingredients list. She begins to repeat herself over and over. I then ask i think its unfair how my friends can just look through the menu to decide- where as I have to put my trust into your hands- which I think is wrong. She tells me they are constantly making new food everyday so its impossible to have a menu for me. I remind her she has one for non allergy suffers and she walks off.

The bill comes and theres a "Suggested Service Charge" of 12.5% after the food mix up, and being shouted at made to feel terribly awful, me and my friends refused to pay it as its only suggested!

We pay the legal amount on the bill and about to leave when a very angry supervisor comes over and shouts at the top of her voice at me " Why haven't you paid the service charge?" I, my friends and the rest of the customers are very shocked and taken a back by this. She then, shouting still, goes on to make me feel extremely bad, awful and a terrible person- which I'm not. I explain to her why we refused to pay the service charge, she then gets even angrier and ignores everything I said. In the end I left the place and cried outside- Seriously this is not how customers should be treated, spoken to or made to feel terrible for a simple question of an allergy menu.

I phoned up trading standards on the next working day and filed a complaint against Megan's. Trading Standards have since then gotten in touch and visited Meghan's and spoken to the management there and have been provided with the necessary information and documentation to comply with the allergen legislation. If i were to ever go back, I expect to see an allergy menu!

Terrible. Turned up and ordered eggs and coffee. 35 mins later and nothing materialised - asked staff to check on order. No update. Gave up and left without breakfast. Don't waste your time.
