Mezcal Cantina

Restaurants, Mexican Stoke Newington
1 Love It

It’s more of a neighbourhood Mexican restaurant (you have to sit down and eat), but sippers can still work their way through the several brands of artisanal mezcal in this Stokey joint. The staff are happy to talk beginners through the finer points of this spirit.

Food-wise and margarita-wise Mezcal Cantina tops my list. This place reminded me of home quite a lot, from serving actual mains with rice and beans as a side. Tacos came a trios, and the margaritas were proper sized and absolutely delicious.

The staff was also very lovely, the only downside was that as it got busy (and boy did it) it was incredibly difficult to place our order. It was nearly 30-40 minutes before we could place our order, but in all fairness, I could tell the waiting staff were very very busy.

The other downside was the sombreros on the back of the seat... which encouraged a lot of drunken diners to put on their heads and go 'ay, ay, ay.'

I'm third generation Mexican-American, and I do find it annoying to see people wearing my heritage & culture as a costume.

Food and drinks, excellent. Decor, a little less so.

I have been here a few times now and love it! The decor is so much fun and the food and cocktails are delicious. :)

Owned by a lovely couple, a Colombian wife and a Mexican husband. In terms of food- they know exactly what they're doing. Cocktails are really good and we're always treated to extra shots on the house at the end of each meal!

I really like this place - it's a lot of fun and the service is great. Not sure what some of the reviews are saying below? Not the same as my experience.

I just visited and was charged and extra £1 for a tiny pot of sour cream when the burrito said it included sour cream. the waitress actually or initially only bought half a small pot normally used for mayonnaise and had the cheek to say that she didn't aS t to put too much in as it is often wasted ,overpriced venue

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. Last night, I arrived with my date we were promptly seated, given menus...and that was it, literally.

We waited a 45 mins for someone to take our order...and it never happened! The restaurant wasn't even busy, how could they completely forget us? Desperate for a drink, my date decided to go to the bar and order us a drink to tie us over...he ordered from the bartender, after 15 mins he realised our drinks were never going to come either...

What a strange and horrible place?

After waiting 45 mins we just got up and left, not that the staff would have noticed or cared. Seriously, what a joke!

As far as I know Mezcal it's been nominated as one of the best Mexican restaurants in London, as Mexican understand the big difference between TexMex food an authentic Mexican, they are doing a great job, always Is very busy, the music, food, drinks, chefs are from Mexico, you should try it by yourself!!

This place is so amazing every time I'm around it's very busy; I been there twice and food always it's great (I tried mole and it's excellent) I would highly recommend this place! They do great cocktails ( mojitos and margarita) staff great, excellent deco with COLORFUL skulls and Frida Graffitis, surely the best place to celebrate with friends, make u feel you are in Mexico!!!

Love Pozole dish, best Mexican Food i tried in London, great service, i met the manager Elizabeth and its a lovely woman, highly recomended,

I Came there by accident and it was great!!! We Live The Food, drinks, friendly staff And great Athnosphere!! Thank you guys for keeping so lovely place

I been at Mezcal twice...the manager so arrogant and he doesn´t have an idea about what service is, he was flirting all the time to all girlS in place and didn't pay attention to the floor, the higiene so poor, the waiters had no idea of what Mexican food is, The food was underwhelming, the personnel were so rude and they weren't happy when we asked for dips.

Been here once and probably wouldn't come back. Quite expensive for what you get. 14 £ for a burrito!! Then it really has to be best ever. And it wasn't. And the service was quite clueless. When I complained about missing ingredient in my enchilada (in the menu it was listed that it was filled with manchego cheese, but there were zero cheese) we were charged 1, 20 £ on the bill. Right....

I've been to Mezcal 2 times and the times I have been, it's been so disappointed. I love the decoration but shame I can't say the same about the food. They are well over priced and the food is not worth paying for. You get better food at Jamie Oliver and it works out cheaper. I have been to several Mexican food places in London and you end up paying £6.00 and it's very yummy and filling. They really need stop thinking they are a 5* restaurant with the prices they charge and charge decent price reflecting on food. Mexican food has tomatoes, avocado, tortilla and meat, that still doesn't cost the amount of money they charge. Please avoid or try once and you will see the price doesn't do justice. I won't go again!

If you want to try original Mexican food... this is the place to go... authentic traditional dishes, great drinks! Try tacos de suadero!! The music and the screen with Mexican videos makes it more special!

Have been here a couple of times now and every time the staff have been rude and unaccommodating. The food was underwhelming, greasy and bland. Drinks are fairly good and they have a happy hour, but their license means you have to buy food to drink, and they weren't happy at all that we just wanted dips.
