Time Out says

Founded 30 years ago, Monmouth sets itself daunting standards for quality and ethical trading, and meets them consistently. This is pre-eminently a place for single-estate and co-operative coffees. You’ll always be able to find a good Kenyan coffee here, and Central and South America are represented by excellent ranges. Founder Anita Le Roy is an industry leader in the campaign to help growers improve quality and earn higher prices. The original shop-café in Covent Garden is tiny and cosy; the Borough space is larger and serves fabulously moreish cakes and savouries to enjoy with your fine brew.

The go-to spot for delicious coffee - never weak and always well made. Friendly staff serve behind a long bar counter scattered with pastries from the Little Bread Peddler, and although seating space is limited the cafe has a bustling vibe. It's also the perfect location to grab a takeaway and explore the surrounds.

This place always has a bit of a queue outside, even when I arrived at 5:30 on a Thursday evening. Hardly prime coffee drinking time! The wafts of great coffee fill your nostrils as you wait in line and you can’t begrudge the staff taking their time with each customer to really put their incredible knowledge of coffee to good use. I was looking for a bag of coffee for a present for a coffee connoisseur. I was a little overwhelmed by the choice of coffee beans so appealed to the friendly staff to help me choose. Even with the limited knowledge of what my friend normally drinks, she was able to recommend the perfect beans, grind them up and offer me a choice of sizes. There was no upsell to a larger bag either, she even recommended I take a smaller bag so my friend could try the beans out first. They also have a selection of coffees to take away, a small area to sit in a drink and a selection of treats to go alongside your coffee. However, I was content to enjoy the wafts of coffee coming from my bag on the tube home!

Pros: Amazing flat whites, worth waiting in line for / Situated in a lovely area (Seven Dials) and near street benches where, if the weather permits, you could sit and have your coffee undisturbed, taking in the sights and sounds of the city

Cons: Extremely busy, have to queue and could rarely get to sit in / Not the cheapest of coffees (but, in my opinion, worth every penny)

I don't like waiting outside in line for a coffee, but that's what you get here if you want to try their great coffee. Like their main location in Park Street they have great coffee. Worth your wait. Unless it's raining!

Consistently the best coffee in the Covent Garden area

Easily the most delicious coffee you can buy in central London. You wouldn't believe what these people are capable of with some beans and hot water!

Whilst having a love hate relationship with dairy (they don't do soya here!), I'm always willing to put that struggle aside for a great coffee. Whilst it can get quite busy, and is very small inside, it is always worth the wait. Great for when I need a pick me up at work and the bland Pret coffee's aren't cutting it. I must remember to try branching out from a safe Latte, mind...!

The place for coffee. The informative staff make this place, attentive and helpful and will lead you through the process of getting the right coffee for your taste to take home. A real gem.

This place has arguably the best coffee in London. I love it. I cannot attest to it being the best as I am not an expert in these manners but it is god.

Granted, this place is tiny and the queues are horrendous on a weekend, but the coffee... amazing! Perfectly made latte's which is a personal fave. Monmouth is wholly worth the 5 stars so I recommend you try if you're in Covent Garden and need a caffeine hit. They do an incredible chocolate brownie too, so definitely try that.

this place has put a lot of smiles on my face over the years, a real institute, x

Best coffee in London! Don't order anything other than full-fat milk as they don't serve it. There's always a queue that is width standing in. Coffee tastings available for those beans you are taking home.

Don't take my word for it, the lines say it all. Best. Coffee. Ever. Great staff, excellent pastries along with the best coffee ever. The only problem is its tiny and there isn't really anywhere to sit. Minor flaw!

I believe in the merit of focusing on just one thing, but excelling at it, and this is just what Monmouth does! The place is not fancy, and you could easily walk past their Covent Garden branch, if it wasn’t for a massive queue that never quite disappears from their door. You might have to wait for few minutes and share a table with a bunch of strangers, but the BEST COFFEE IN LONDON (UK? World?) makes it so worth it!

Used to use the Borough Market but working in the Covent Garden means buying my bag of coffee, and I love that they will let me taste 2-3 coffee to help me choose!

There's no avoiding the fact, these guys' Joe is pretty special. Have always been baffled by the big queues to get in but after a visit you understand why people bother.
