Cast from the same mould as its Korean sibling Koba (round the corner on Rathbone Street), this smartly dressed Japanese restaurant displays plenty of eastern charm. Nizuni, with its paper lanterns, dark wooden fittings and images of swimming koi carp, has a chilled out feel. At lunchtime, the black banquettes are populated by office workers grabbing a bite; in the evening the atmosphere is more intimate, with plenty of couples coming for a meal.

The contemporary menu hints at the Korean ownership, featuring the likes of squid and kimchi pancakes, or spicy seafood stew, but you’ll also find more standard Japanese izakaya-style dishes such as miso-grilled aubergine, or yakitori. Tuna sashimi arrived reasonably fresh, and a salmon and avocado inside-out roll was well wrapped, but there are more interesting options to explore on the menu, such as earthy beef stew with tofu and noodles served in a clay pot (nabe), or stir-fried pork with kimchi. Infused with Asian flavourings, the short list of desserts is also enticing – our chestnut cake was warm and sticky. The staff can seem a little absent-minded at times, but they’re always agreeable.

I've been to Nizuni many times and absolutely love it. The food is great and always fresh and the staff are very friendly. I would eat there every day if I could afford it!

I heard people praising the foods in this restaurant in my school. So I tried this place with my Japanese friends and they actually said some of the main menus are even more delicious than their actual experience in Japan!

disappointing .Barbecued teriyaki chicken coated in the standard "out of the can " sauce you find in the cheapest takeaway .Slow and sullen service .Expensive .The only redeeming quality is the terrace on a nice summer day .

I absolutely love this place!! The sushi and sashimi is great quality (as is everything on the menu), the staff are super friendly, it has a really buzzing atmosphere every night and it's in a fantastic area of London! What's not to love?! Some of my personal favourites off the menu would be....the deep fried squid with wasabi mayo, deep fried tiger prawns (are to die for), grilled miso marinated sea bass, scallop sushi, spring onion and fatty tuna roll, and their drinks are also pretty fantastic! It's fairly reasonably priced, especially for the quality, and I return time and time again!! My parents request it whenever they come to visit! Fab place!!!!

I've eaten here with family twice and enjoyed it on both occasions. Good sushi and sashimi, indeed no problems with any of the food. Service has always been exactly as expected - not like the staff were on roller-skates but they didn't dawdle. Will be returning.

We waited an 1 hour and 30 minutes for our food and they still got the order wrong. It was 45 minutes before we got our drinks and there were not that many people there at the time. We reminded them 3 times during that time.

We had a good dinner , tempura was fine, excellent sushi . Maki california with crab was the only weak point. Good green tea ice cream. Lovely staff, very kind.

This restaurant was beyond the imagination. The service was extremely poor - slow, inaccurate (we had to change the salad 4 times until they understood what was wrong with it) and it took us 30 minutes to get a glass of wine. They forgot half of the order and spoilt the other half. DO NOT GO UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPOIL YOUR NIGHT.

We went to Nizuni on a Friday evening and we have been very pleased with the food and service. The food ranged from good to very good (particularly impressed by the aubergine and by a tuna tartare). The service is friendly and caring. The restaurant was quiet when we came in but had become rather noisy by the time we left. The price was very very honest and the value for money remarkable. I'll definitely go again.
