A smart all-day bar and restaurant in the middle of Chiswick High Road.

When Aretha Franklin sang ‘Chain, chain, chain’, she probably didn’t have Chiswick High Road in mind, but they’re everywhere you look on the area’s sedate high street. So, on the face of it, this venture replacing an All Bar One seems like a good thing. But dig a little deeper and you’ll find this new bar and all-day eatery comes from Darwin & Wallace, whose venues may not all have the same name but which certainly share a certain style. And they appear to have spent an absolute fortune turning it into a gleaming all-white bar and restaurant straight out of a glossy interior design magazine.

Cocktails take centre-stage on the drinks menu, with prices on the steep side (£9.50 for an Aperol spritz). A rhubarb and ginger cobbler arrived in a tin with mountains of crushed ice and tasted like overly sweet boozy cordial. Food is an all-day affair, stretching from breakfast and brunch through to dinner. Unfortunately, the chilli squid had so much thick greasy batter the nearby chippy would have been ashamed.

Add to these gripes some disappointing service: our drinks order was taken by a waiter who was so uninterested he couldn’t even muster a grunt during the one-way exchange. It’s clear that beyond the aesthetics, this bar must try harder.

This is a lovely spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner and has a fast menu with something for everyone's taste. I have had all options, breakfast brunch/ lunch and dinner. I would say the breakfast/ brunch menu and food is okay but nothing special. I quite like the all day menu and you can order small sharing plates which is quite good but again the food is average. The service is a little hit or miss, more of the miss to be honest. The staff in general are not very friendly or attentive other than two which I always find to be great and if I visit I'm always hoping for the friendly waiter. Bar is okay and nice spot for drinks with friends but there is a hint of pretentiousness. I do like it but it is more of a last resort or something for a larger group as there are much nice places in Chiswick food wise and definitely service wise.

As a resident of Chiswick I much enjoyed this new trendy venue on the High Road. Food is good, atmosphere is contemporary laid-back. easy menu and brunch all day option. Sadly, I had an unpleasant experience over the weekend while having lunch, the service took forever and brought my poached egg 60 min after i got a table. While, I knew there was a 30 min wait for the food, i did not expect it to be double...when i asked for an explanation from the management, I had to experience a poor customer service with a very unfriendly manager. We got to pay the full bill without any compensation. This is very disappointing as the Chiswick Fire Station was my new go to place...Hopefully the management will be changed and service will improve...until then, Chiswick high road offers plenty of other delicious options! No stars rating...

hmmmm ok so here goes!

I actually really like this spot! the decor is clean and bright which made me feel at peace and the service was swift! I can't say the food blew me away but I'm open to trying more of the menu. what I did love was their cocktail menu!! the rhubarb whatever they call it was just sublime!! sweet and alcoholic! just how i like me ;)

the bar staff are amazing and for that alone they get 4 stars!!

Although no. 197 Chiswick Fire Station wasn't very busy on a Sunday morning at 9:45, the service all felt very rushed for no reason during my visit. I chose a table on the patio, but the tables inside also looked appealing in this bright and minimalist restaurant. The first table I sat at smelled of rubbish so I moved to the other side of the patio. It turned out that all of the bins were kept behind the fence I had been sitting near and part way through my meal the gate was opened up and all of last nights rubbish was taken out to the garbage truck via the patio. The lemon ricotta pancakes that I ordered were delicious but pricey for the portion. Also, i thought a side of scrambled eggs was overpriced at £3.50. Disappointingly I had ordered a latte at the same time as my food and it didn't even arrive until I was finished eating. Despite the lovely interior of the restaurant and the good pancakes, there were way too many things wrong with no. 197 for me to want to go back.
