The Malta-based Corinthia hotel group spent a mint turning this ex-government building near the Embankment into its London flagship, with stunning lobbies and two high-wow-factor restaurants, Italian Massimo (see p165) and this one, with a modern British emphasis. Decor is a blend of classic grandeur (soaring Corinthian columns, of course), modern glitz and old-London poshness, with very comfortable leather seating and lofty windows. It’s all very dressed-up, but not so clear on where it’s going. Service seemed oddly uncoordinated. Menus make great play of the origin of the quality British ingredients, but the cooking seems to lack the flair of its best grand-hotel competitors. From the three-course set lunch menu – a reasonable deal for this kind of venue – cod brandade with smoked salmon, and roast barnsley lamb chop with forest mushrooms, shallots and a pile of parsley, were both pleasant, but unexciting. Just reading the ‘Afters’ list had us drooling, but, sadly, vanilla parfait with cherry compote and watermelon and mint jelly had almost tasteless jelly. The wine selection is suitably grand without any special highlights, but one plus is the offer of superb Damian Allsop chocolates, for an extra charge.

We did the 35pound dinner with a glass of champagne included:) definitely value for money and the service was immaculate. Decor of the place was grand and romantic, overall a great experience.

We had the scotch quail egg and smoked salmon for starters, duck and fish cake as main with chocolate peanut tart to finish. I love how the chef presented the dishes, detailed and beautiful.

A good place for a date as it's pretty quiet and whole ambience was great.

Definitely worth a try!

You can't go wrong with DST in Soho. The best power business breakfast in town. Eggs any style or salads, kippers or porridge, you choose, it's all good. Read the paper, browse the news and go about your business with gusto. Service will be efficient, pleasant and unobtrusive. Just perfect.

Über high ceilings, grand decor, luxury 'hotel-like' atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and its presentation. My grilled Dover sole on the bone was superb. Duck croquette starter was a treat. My friend had lamb and loved it. Great wine from Spain "Ibericos" Service was a bit patchy but good overall.

We went for the Jazz Sunday Brunch at the Northall on 13th September. In all, it was a lovely experience; very attentive and friendly staff and well-presented, portioned and cooked food. The jazz singer was a welcome addition and the music was pleasant but not overwhelming.

I had the eggs benedict, roast beef and then the strawberry macaron. My boyfriend the steak tartar, lobster and then the chocolate mousse. We were both very satisfied.

I had written a note on the booking mentioning that it was my boyfriend's birthday. The waitress arranged for a chocolate happy birthday to be written on his dessert plate, and for some free chocolates with our coffee. All in all it was a lovely experience.

The preheated dinner was one of the finest meals I have had in london at any price. Presentation, subtle but flavorful dishes and attentive service were five star. The 2012 review is outdated and should be reconsidered.

Business dinner for three on Thursday evening proved to be excellent. We were greeted by friendly reception staff on arrival, and welcomed with a glass of champagne, one of my colleagues chose from the a la carte, two of us had the best value in central London set three course dinner, excellent choices from the a la carte menu, but for a fraction of the price. The food itself was delicious, melt in the mouth slithers of tuna, delicious duck breast salad and a classic prawn cocktail for starters, followed by an historic Barnsley chop, roast haddock and a chicken, with some great side dishes. We shared a cheese platter and puddings - heavenly. Great British cooking at good old-fashioned prices, highly recommended!

I had dinner at The Northall on the 14th February 2012 for the first time and it will definitely by my last. I went to your restaurant that night with high expectations. The meal and the service we received from the waiting staff was superb but the evening was ruined by the impoliteness from a member of staff. I had made my booking on Monday 13th February 2012 via for the special offer of three courses and a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne for £25. I received a confirmation of my booking from the site later that day. On the night of the meal, 2 hours before our arrival I spoke to a gentleman called David to verify my booking and he confirmed that they had. When presented with the bill at the end of the meal I noticed that there had been an error with the amount we were charged for our meal. I brought this to the attention of the waiter who then called the maitre d' over. I explained to him that there had been a mistake; we had not ordered the valentines menu but the special offer of three meals and a glass of champagne for £25. The maitre d' then proceeded to tell me that the restaurant was not taking toptable bookings that evening and diners had been contacted and made aware of this. I explained that no one had called me but I had called the restaurant two hours before arriving and at no point during my conversation with David did he tell me of this. I also showed him a confirmation of my booking on my smart phone. He also highlighted that on the menu we were given it stated it was the valentines menu. I told him I did not see this and it is not my job to highlight to the staff at the restaurant of my specific booking. This should have been dealt with before we were shown to our seats and given the correct menus. Afterwards we were given another bill with the correct amount. I found his manner and approach to the situation both abrasive and condescending. I was made to feel like a liar in front of the other diners. His retort of "have a nice evening" and walking off mid-conversation was very unprofessional. If this is the kind of staff they employ then they need to re-evaluate their hiring policies. A pleasant evening was ruined by the actions of an ill-mannered member of staff. The other staff were very attentive and I would have given the restaurant a higher rating but due to the behaviour of one person I am only giving them a two.
