Orange Room Café
There has been a change of style at the Orange Room: out with the cosy backpacker aesthetic and (thanks to the smoking ban) slouchy corner for shisha pipes, and in with a clean paint job, canteen tables and hilariously kitsch desert artwork. The food, though, put together in the open kitchen at the top of the single room, remains the same. Classic Brit breakfasts and a nice range of drinks (lassis, date and rosewater cordial, ‘fresh’ mint tea made from leaves and a teabag) maintain the café vibe, while Lebanese meze (grilled and marinated meats, flatbread and pastries, falafel, houmous and simple herbed salads) give the place a cosmopolitan slant. And when it comes to quality, the execution is only rarely wide of the mark.

In my SW London ‘hood, Lebanese joints are not quite ten a penny but pretty common. They’re good too, so venturing waaaay out of my locality to visit another one didn’t raise the expectation levels too high.

There was a group of us and we wanted somewhere warm and inviting before going to explore nearby cemeteries (another story for another time). This seemed to fit the bill so we piled in and quite frankly what followed was an ordering frenzy. Mezze is just fine for sharing and we weren’t shy. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. We enjoyed it immensely with an easygoing no frills background that suited the area and our mood. It was also super cheap! If I ever venture that far east again there’s another mezze with my name on it. Yum.

Tip: Don’t over order as you’ll fill up quickly (doggy bags optional)

Down the road from my house its an ideal loaction for me. I usually go up to knightsbridge or edgware road for a good lebanese restaurant but this is a must visit. The menu is tasty and they are very generous with portions. Very friendly staff and very quick to serve. will definately be going again! Prices are a steal! you can get full and be satisfied.

This is my nearest restaurant - and i'm so happy that it's at the end of my road. It's lovely food, the decor and furniture may no be the coolest - but the food is always freshly cooked, served hot, tasty and reasonably priced! it's BYO too which is a bonus. it's a great place to go for a meal with friends, or just the two of you. Portion sizes are huge, I normally share a main between two people. Service is friendly and polite. - take away is also good!
