After working for Abdul Solak for 7 months as Head Chef of Candela, of which he was a business partner, I can confidently say as I'm sure will any other members of my staff who went unpaid over Xmas 2014 and still haven't been paid up to date, that Abdul Solak and the businesses he is involved in,Palm2, Organic & Natural and unfortunately Baobab Cafe are all sham as heck. The site at 159 Lower Clapton Road, currently, Baobab Cafe, being the most unfortunate for many employees in my experience. With Abdul Solak's signature on the lease agreement any partners or business collaborators have pretty much zero rights in the case of problems arising. Ask the previous employees of Candela if in any doubt as to the truth herein. You can't liquidate a business without the signature of the leaseholder apparently so Candela never really closed, it's just a ghost of Clapton. The same as Riley's Bar before it and I'm sure Baobab Cafe will be. So the next time you think of renting the space above Palm 2 or buying any overpriced and out of date fruit and veg downstairs or fancy a shit coffee or some unsustainable organic produce, spare a thought for the unpaid proletariat that Abdul Solak builds his empire on. Surely sustainability should extend to sustaining the people who do the work to make things happen, rather than just the man who cracks the whip with a greedy look in his eye. All the best with the whole Clapton Village aesthetic Abdul Solak, because that's all it is. Peace

A lovely shop which is unusually imaginative/creative compared to most local grocery shops in London, except you pay the price for that as shockingly most items seem to cost around 20%-30% more than identical products found in nearby local shops - plus they don't bother labelling items (perhaps they're too embarrassed to?). If you do a large shop here, the bill is often eye wateringly steep. Quality of fresh fruit/veg is extremely variable and it's not unusual to find a box of rotting vegetables being sold at extortionate prices.

Welcome to New Clapton.

Palm 2 sells some great brands and has an amazing ready-to-eat bar, the feta and spinach pastries are delicious, however by promoting everything they sell as organic and natural they think this justifies whacking the prices up, be prepared to overpay. A shop more for your bits, not your main shop.

Palm 2 has these absolutely delicious little pastries. There's a feta cheese-spinach one that is incredibly delicious. And because the shop is "organic" I can fool myself into thinking I'm being healthy.. Really cute shop, has a nice community feel to it, and the shop-keepers are always really pleasant. Lovely!

Great local shop, doing nice events, good food and have a good selection of drinks and groceries.

Palm 2 has the most amazing selection of foods, great fresh produce and deli counter treats. They sell delicious coffee outside and their salted caramel brownie is the best thing I have ever eaten. The world needs more Palm 2s.

This lovely Deli with fantastic fresh food and friendly, smiling staff deserves some recognition after being in Clatpton for a number of years now. My favourite time is heading here (too) early on Saturday morning with my two kids to pick up hot croissants and coffee.
