Neither the location nor the frontage appear very promising at first, but look beyond appearances for decent Italian food at a good price. A weekday evening was busy with tourists and regulars in the know. The plain interior is a little unimaginative, but the many windows at the back lift the room.
Although bruschetta was made with flavoursome olive oil and a good sprinkling of oregano, the bread beneath was lacklustre. Next, salmon tagliatelle came with mushrooms and spring onions in a creamy sauce; equally delicious was plump cannelloni. From a small list of salads, meat and fish dishes, pan-roasted guinea fowl with Italian-style roast potatoes and vegetables proved an excellent choice. We ended the meal with tiramisu: we planned to share one between two, but liked it so much we ordered a second.

I love this place - having stumbled across it by accident a couple of years ago it has become a favourite with me and my girlfriend. The steak frou frou is a highlight of the menu, and the cannelloni and ravioli are also excellent. Its location has advantages - we always find it easy to get a table there whereas we'd have to wait at least half an hour for one of the places at Euston!
I was there for lunch today and would broadly agree with your review. Venetian calves liver was pleasant though tougher than any I have had in Italy - tempted me to wonder whether 'calves' was accurate. Veal Milanese was well done - as you say - but my friend ordered it with spaghetti which came in a rather amorphous mess of tomato sauce at the side of the plate. I felt the prices were high for the standard of cooking this is. Was left wondering whether I would ever be likely to return. If they looked again at their sourcing and pushed up the cooking a couple of notches, this place could be really good.
