An upmarket Mayfair Mexican from Arjun Waney - the chap behind Zuma, Roka and Oblix at The Shard. Despite the name - taken from the Mexican cactus from which mescaline is derived - trips here usually remain entrenched in reality.

The poshed-up Mexican food ranges from guacamole, grilled cactus and octopus with a lemon salsa to lobster ceviche, Chilean sea bass with a coriander and pineapple sauce, and chuleta de cordero - lamb chops served here with a mint and habinero salsa. Desserts include churros, a whiskey crème caramel and cheesecake with a hibiscus granite.

Mezcal and tequila feature prominently on Peyote's cocktail list, with a wide array of both available by the glass and bottle, too. The wine list does feature a couple of Mexican bottles but wisely concentrates on well-known winemaking regions for the rest of the list - expect plenty of old world options.

A three-course set lunch menu is a good choice for those on a budget.

I went here on a deal for the tapas menu which was great value including 4 dishes & a cocktail or glass of prosecco. The positives were great location, loved the decor (beautiful wash room basins!) and really nice & friendly staff. The negatives were I just didn't love the food. The guacamole lacked a limey zing, the home made tortilla chips tasted burnt & I found the quesadillas greasy & bland. I'm not a chilli queen but even I needed more spice. The frozen margaritas tasted bitter too. That said my friend raved about the prawn ceviche & octopus salad and thought me being meh was an unfair assessment!

Having visited last night, on the timeout 4 courses and prosecco deal, we have fallen in love with this place. The staff are attentive without being overbearing, the food is served promptly without feeling rushed, and the drinks were middle of the range rather than being the cheapest available.

From the menu I can recommend the octopus, the pork tacos, and the cheesecake. The first course options lacked a little, hence only 4 starts, but all in all a lovely venue well worth a visit.

Good place to go on week end with friends, service are lovely and the food are awesome !!!

Complete rubbish. Tiny portions, poor service where they keep trying to sell, mediocre food (strong smokey flavours completely overpowering) and incredibly expensive for what you get. Steer well clear!!!
