The tables are very close together, and during peak times the service gets a bit harried, so this isn't a place to linger. But the menu has improved in recent years, and the excellent vegan options are appreciated.

I’m not a big chain fan but having been let down by a local Italian we were in the mood for carbs and as quickly as possible! Pizza Express always has an offer so we searched online and sure enough a good old two courses for next to nothing pops up. It was a bit of a faff downloading it on 3G but they insisted on the code so it had to be done.

There were three other sets of diners on a Saturday lunch time in the centre of town, burning sunshine on the streets but dimly lit within. The interior decor is chain through and through so nothing to tantalise or excite, no talking points, just grey and beige function.

It wasn’t half bad though. The food was adequate and as expected, the buy a pizza, get a pizza sort of fare. Their house wine was reasonable and staff surprisingly friendly considering their drab surroundings. We had the added bonus of not being rushed as I think they were just happy to make the place look a bit busy. Good if your requirements are purely nutritional and your wallet is light.

Tip: Go with low expectations and be pleasantly surprised.
